As the clock ticked down in the final seconds and No. 13 seed Hawai’i upset California, there was surprisingly little talk of the Rainbow Warriors among national media pundits.
Instead, much of the focus was on Cal. The Bears found out just minutes before tip that junior Jabari Bird would miss the game with back spasms, meaning they’d be without both him and senior point guard Tyrone Wallace while facing one of the more explosive and talented double-digit seeds in the tournament.
In particular, there was a healthy amount of criticism levied towards Cal freshman Jaylen Brown, who followed up his porous end of the regular season with a dud in the Pac-12 Tournament and fouling out of today’s game with more than six minutes remaining.
Horrendous end to an inconsistent year for Jaylen Brown. Has been out of sorts for the last month. Will be interesting to see where he goes.

Let’s not mistake this: Jaylen Brown is still a lottery prospect that likely goes top-10. But he had a horrible day today, for sure.

Jaylen Brown playing like a flaming bag. What a horrendous game. Might want to stay in school kid.

Hawai’i moves on to face the winner of No. 5 Maryland and No. 12 South Dakota State, who face off this afternoon. Cal’s loss was the Pac-12’s fifth of the tournament, with just Utah and Oregon remaining.
