While the stars will line up in Austin, Texas this week for the World Golf Championships Dell Match Play tournament from the Austin Country Club, a strong cast of players will make their way south for the Puerto Rico Open. $3 million in prize money will be handed out at the Coco Beach Golf & Country Club in Rio Grande, but those golfers aren’t the only ones with the chance to make some serious money. DraftKings has set up a number of tournaments for this week’s event including the PGA $200K Fairway, which will hand out a guaranteed $200K in prizes. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA fantasy tournaments.
Graham DeLaet, $11,000
DeLaet didn’t make the field for the World Golf Championships-Dell Match Play so he will play in the Puerto Rico Open instead as the obvious betting favorite to win outright. DeLaet looked very good at the Valspar Championship two weeks ago before finishing tied for fifth and his solid tee-to-green game makes him an obvious strong fit for this tournament. DeLaet has seemed on the verge of a breakthrough season since the start of the year and we are banking on that this is the tournament in which he finally breaks through and earns a victory.
Scott Brown, $10,800
Brown won this event back in 2013 and he should be another strong play this week. Brown finished tied for 10th here a year ago and the momentum is on his side following some strong results on the Florida swing. The fact that he is one of the most expensive players on the board doesn’t scare us away because we have locked in what we feel are the two best bets to win the tournament with a couple of sleeper options that we can take a chance on at a lesser price later on.
Kyle Stanley, $8,000
DeLaet and Brown are clearly our best bets to win the tournament and we like Stanley as a golfer that could surprise as a strong value option. Stanley finished tied for 28th at this event in 2011, but he finished that tournament with a 67 in the final round and familiarity should help him this time around. Stanley finished outside of the top-40 at each of three events on the Florida swing, but he made the cut in each of them and could surprise in a relatively weak field this week.
Derek Fathauer, $7,800
Fathauer looked outstanding with his putter a week ago at the Arnold Palmer Invitational when he finished ninth. While many might think that it was a much better outing than anyone imagined from him, it was actually his second straight quality outing. That was a strong encore performance after he tied for 12th at Bay hill the week before and he should have plenty of momentum and confidence on his side heading in to this week.
Tyrone Van Aswegen, $6,200
After spending big on our top two picks we have to find a way to balance out our roster with some strong sleeper picks and Van Aswegen is one of them. He has made 11 of 12 cuts on the PGA Tour this season and he has played at this course a couple of times before so experience is on his side. Van Aswegen won’t win the Puerto Rico Open, but he should make the cut and if he can find a way in to the top-40 then he will definitely be worth taking the chance on.
Greg Chalmers, $6,100
Chalmers is another deep sleeper option that is worth taking a chance on based on his ridiculously low price tag that allows us to spend big on our top two picks. Chalmers is coming off a top-10 finish at the Louisiana Open and he started last week with three straight 67’s before a 73 in the final round. Chalmers missed the cut at this event in 2011,, but he finished tied for fourth at this event back in 2009 and his extremely low price tag makes him worth taking a flier on in Daily Fantasy Leagues.
