The countdown to The Masters continues with the Shell Houston Open as the final stop before the big one this week. There will be $6.8 million in prize money on the line at the Redstone Golf Club and fans can also get in on the action with a full slate of fantasy tournaments available on DraftKings. That includes the LAST SHOT: PGA $4M Fantasy Golf Millionaire SUPERSatellite, where a $3 entry can earn you a share of $35,000 in prize money. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA tournaments.
Rickie Fowler, $11,000
Fowler had a nice little run going with a second-place result, a sixth-place finish, and another sixth-place finish at the Waste Management Open, The Honda Classic and the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship respectively before a disappointing 38th at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play. A couple of weeks off should help with Fowler looking to get dialed in before The Masters. This is a good spot for him to get his groove back on a course that should fit his skill set rather well. Fowler struggled in last year’s Shell Houston Open, but he placed 6th here 2014 and we expect him to show that form at this week’s tournament.
Henrik Stenson, $10,800
It is hard to find another option as consistent as Stenson, who has been one of the most reliable options in DraftKings tournaments. The Swede has shown a steady improvement in every week since coming to the United States this year including a third-place finish in last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. He also has an impressive resume at this tournament including two top-three finishes in his last four appearances here.
J.B. Holmes, $9,700
The defending tournament champion is available at under $10K so there is no reason not to have him in your lineup for this week’s DraftKings tournaments. Holmes is coming off a couple of sub-par performances but he has registered three top-10 finishes in eight events this season and also finished 11th at both the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Northern Trust Open. He might not win this tournament outright but he should at the very least contend and challenge for a top-10 spot.
Adam Hadwin, $6,600
The Canadian bounced back from back-to-back missed cuts with a 36th-place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and that is enough to convince us to turn back to him as a sleeper option in DraftKings tournaments. Hadwin has made the cut in eight of his 12 events this season including a top-10 finish at the CareerBuilder Challenge and another two top-20 finishes at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and Northern Trust Open. He isn’t nearly as strong of an option as our big three but at under $7K he is more than worth taking a chance on to help us balance our money spent.
Johnson Wagner, $6,100
There is no way we would be able to load up on the big three in our lineup if it wasn’t for at least one risk but we feel like Wagner is worth taking a chance on. He hasn’t made the cut at a PGA Tour event yet this season but he has an outstanding record at this course with six of nine cuts made including three top-10 finishes. The Texas-native also tied for the record low round at this course with a 63 so there is sufficient reason to think this is the week he finally breaks through. The fact that he is available at just $6.1K makes him an enticing option as a strong sleeper pick.
Jhonattan Vegas, $5,700
Vegas has actually performed better than Wagner so far this season with seven of 10 cuts made, including two top-10 finishes. He doesn’t have the same track record at this course but the better form combined with an even lower price tag makes him a dark horse pick. Vegas has made the last three cuts at this tournament so he should be a reliable enough option to fill out the final spot in our lineup.
