Broner vs Theophane Odds – Boxing at the Washing D.C. armory this Friday night sees a full ten fight card promoted by Leonard Ellerbe and Mayweather Promotions. Five of the bouts on the card are getting attention at the sport books.
The main event features WBA “Super World” 140 lb champion Adrien Broner defend his belt against the challenge of Ashley Theophane. Broner is a huge favorite, and the early attempts to hype this fight by promoting the rivalry between Broner and his former mentor Floyd Mayweather Jr really fell flat. Theophane may have Mayweather Jr in his corner for this one, but most people think unless Floyd is going to actually do the fighting for Theophane, he has no chance.
Then, the week before the fight, news breaks that Broner is wanted on felony robbery and assault charges in his hometown of Cincinnati. The authorities have been nice enough to postpone pursuing the charges until after Broner´s scheduled fight. This type of adversity has not seemed to have fazed Broner in the least bit, as he appeared at the press conferences smiling and laughing.
At the end of the day, Broner has world titles in four different categories and Theophane has toiled as a veteran for more than 40 fights and getting this match is the closest he has come. The line reflects that the fighters are at two different levels, and Broner is taking an easy fight as he looks for big money fights down the road. Theophane is dangerous because he himself believes he can win, even if no one else does. It begins with that.
Most of the lines being offered reflects soft matchmaking for “The Money Team” fighters such as J’Leon Love and Anthony Peterson.
The most competitive line out there for this card comes in the co-feature 10 round bout betwee nLightweights Algenis Mendez and Robert Easter Jr. Easter Jr is the undefeated (16-0) prospect and he finds himself in a step up fight. Mendez is a former world champion in the Super Featherweight category, and at 23-3-1 he has been in there with some tough guys. After winning the world title by beating Jaun carlos Salgado, he fought a draw and had a loss turned to a no contest to retain the belt. He was famously stopped by Rances Barthelelmy in January of 2014 to lose his IBF Featherweight title, but the knock out blow was deemed to come just after the bell resulting in the no-contest. He rematched Barthelemy in July of 2014 and he had a much better showing, losing the belt when three judges had the fight 115-111 for the challenger Barthelemy.

The rest of the card features a lot of talent from the Mayweather stable of fighters. One fighter to watch is undefeated 21 year old prospect Gervonta Davis, who is 14-0 already, with 13 knock outs. The stocky, muscular Davis has super fast hands and is nicknamed “Tank”. Keep your eye on this guy.
