WrestleMania 32 Recap: New Intercontinental Champion

WrestleMania 32 is underway, if the pre-show is any indication, it will be a great show. Every match on the card is a big one, and will play a big part in WWE’s “season finale.” If you have not watched the pre-show, the biggest announcement so far was the replacement of the Divas Championship with the Women’s Championship.

Kevin Owens (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz vs. Sin Cara vs. Stardust vs. Sami Zayn vs. Zack Ryder – Intercontinental Championship (Ladder Match)
This match is a great opportunity for any one of these Superstars. Even if they don’t win the Intercontinental Championship, there can be another “OMG” moment like Kalisto had at TLC to elevate his career. Although everybody has an equal opportunity, this match surrounds the feud between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.

The Miz seems to have the match won, but Zack Ryder sneaks behind the Miz and pushes him off of the ladder to shock the world and win the Intercontinental Championship. Winner, and NEW Intercontinental Champion: Zack Ryder

AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho has been mad at AJ Styles over the last few months because the fans have been chanting for Styles instead of Jericho. Styles has picked up two victories over Jericho, and Jericho has picked up a win over Styles in their series. Tonight, Styles and Jericho go at it for one more, and perhaps last, time.

Styles looks to set up the Phenomenal Forearm, but Jericho counters with a Codebreaker to pick up the victory. Winner: Chris Jericho

The New Day vs. The League of Nations (w/King Barrett)
The New Day enters by coming out of a 30ft box of Booty-O’s, and the League of Nations enters doing their wave. Also, a last-minute change made this a 3-on-3 tag team match instead of the expected handicap match that WWE has been advertising. Either way, it is still weird that this isn’t for the Tag Team Championship.

King Barrett hits a Bull Hammer elbow on Xavier Woods, leading to a Brogue Kick from Sheamus to give the League of Nations the win. Winners: The League of Nations

After the match, King Barrett grabs a microphone and brags about how great the League of Nations, and how no three men can take them on. Cue the music.

Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, and Stone Cold Steve Austin, and come to the ring to fight the League of Nations. They all hit their finishers on The League of Nations, then proceed to dance with the New Day, followed by Stone Cold hitting Woods with a Stunner.

Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose (No Holds Barred Street Fight)
Since Fastlane, Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar have been feuding with each other after they competed in a triple threat match to determine the #1 Contender to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Ambrose has a lot on his plate tonight, because the last time Lesnar was in a singles match at WrestleMania, he conquered The Streak.

Dean Ambrose grabs the barbed-wire covered bat, but Lesnar dodges, and hits an F5 on Ambrose onto a pile of steal chairs to put The Lunatic away. Winner: Brock Lesnar

Charlotte (w/Ric Flair) (c) vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch – WWE Women’s Championship
As announced during the pre-show, whoever wins this match will win the new WWE Women’s Championship. Sasha Banks entered with a performance by her Hall of Fame cousin, Snoop Dogg, and Charlotte entered with a robe that was made with some pieces of the robe that Ric Flair wore during his retirement match at WrestleMania 24.

Sasha Banks tries to break up the Figure Eight on Becky Lynch, but Ric Flair prevents Banks from getting back into the ring, forcing Becky Lynch to tap out. Winner, and NEW WWE Women’s Champion: Charlotte

The fact the WWE is predictable doesn’t apply to WrestleMania, as I am currently 2/8 with my predictions.

Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker (Hell in a Cell)
There are high stakes in this match. If Shane McMahon wins, he gains control of Raw, and The Undertaker won’t be at another WrestleMania ever again. If The Undertaker wins, everything stays the way it is.

Shane McMahon jumps off of the top of the cell, but the Undertaker rolls out of the way, leaving Shane to crash through the announce table (as seen above). Undertaker takes advantage, and hits the Tombstone Piledriver on Shane McMahon inside the ring to put away Shane O’ Mac. Winner: The Undertaker

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
One person to note participating in this match (that I wasn’t expecting) is NXT Superstar Baron Corbin. Oh, and Diamond Dallas Page. And Tatanka. And Shaquille O’Neal.

Here’s the order of elimination: Fandango, Damien Sandow, Shaq, Big Show, Viktor, DDP, Konnor, Tatanka, Jack Swagger, R-Truth, Goldust, Curtis Axel, Adam Rose, Heath Slater, Tyler Breeze, Mark Henry, Darren Young, Bo Dallas, Kane.

3rd Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal Winner: Baron Corbin

In-Ring Segment
The Rock has been teasing an appearance for weeks, and here it is. Before the Rock comes out, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders do a routine, and then The Rock enters with a flamethrower (Dean Ambrose could have used that). The Rock announces that the WrestleMania attendance record has been broken, with over 101,000 people in attendance. After announcing the record, he is interrupted by The Wyatt Family.

After The Rock and Bray Wyatt go back-and-forth in a promo, he challenges one of them to a match.

The Rock vs. Erick Rowan
In 6 seconds, the Rock hits a Rock Bottom on Rowan to win. Winner: The Rock

After the match, The Wyatt Family is about to attack The Rock, when John Cena returns to join the Rock in the ring, and they take care of the Wyatt Family.

The match between Rowan and The Rock was the shortest in WrestleMania history.

Triple H (c) vs. Roman Reigns – WWE World Heavyweight Championship
This match has been in the making ever since Triple H won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the Royal Rumble match. After Roman Reigns kept getting pushed down by the Authority (like Daniel Bryan) and tonight he looks to get the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and get his revenge on Triple H (like Daniel Bryan).

Reigns hits a spear to finally end this match. Winner, and NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Roman Reigns
