This week on the Respect the Hustle podcast, there is just one more game to go until the 2015-2016 college basketball season is officially in the books and a champion is named, so college basketball analyst William Whelan took the time to lay out his award winners—but not all the awards are just for the normal titles.
Of course he lays out his picks for Freshman of the Year–a race that has tightened as of late—Defensive Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Player of the Year. These are the ones that everyone has an opinion on and, in the end, carry the most weight and expectations to win. Here’s a hint: You’ll have to wait to get the answers to who Whelan picks, all of which should generate some debate.
But waiting to hear those names is worth it, as Whelan lays out his take on some more off-the-radar awards.
First up is his nomination for the All Man Crush Team MVP. Wyoming’s Josh Adams had been on the radar all season long for this title, but could his electric performances for the Cowboys overcome the team’s negligent finish to the season? When looking for new names on the scene, Whelan named one low-major star as his winner for the From Obscurity to Brilliance Award. Whelan wasn’t done, though. After that, he broke down his picks for the All Bulldog Team MVP and Gunner of the Year Award.
Make sure to tune into the final episode of the Respect the Hustle Podcast for this college basketball season!
