Lucha Underground S1E24 Recap: First-Ever Trios Champions

Photo from El Rey Network

On the last episode of Lucha Underground, we saw the last qualifier match in the Trios Tournament. Prince Puma, Johnny Mundo, and the newly-signed Hernandez took on the team of King Cuerno, Cage and Texano, which Dario Cueto personally assembled. Cuerno and his teammates would win the qualifier after Texano snuck in some shots with his bull rope on his opponents.

Last week’s episode also featured the final match in the “Best of 5” series between Aerostar and Drago. Drago won the competitive bout, and earned a “unique opportunity” from Dario Cueto. That opportunity is a shot at the Lucha Underground Championship. If Drago loses, however, he is permanently banned from competing in The Temple.

Tonight’s episode of Lucha Underground features the Trios Championship match, where three teams will face off to be the inaugural Trios Champions.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Opening Segment
We get some background (kind of) on the mysterious woman who has been appearing on Lucha Underground for months. She says she is ready (but she doesn’t specify what for), but she ends up fighting a mentor-like figure, who says otherwise.

Sexy Star vs. Pentagon Jr.
Over the last several weeks, Pentagon Jr. has been breaking the arms of his opponents as sacrifices to his master. Two weeks ago, Sexy Star would team up with Pentagon Jr. and Super Fly, and after losing a Trios tournament qualifying match, Pentagon Jr. would attempt to break the arm of Super Fly. Sexy Star would make the save, but Pentagon Jr. would be successful at breaking Super Fly’s arm after previously being humiliated by losing a Mask vs. Mask match against Sexy Star. What pushed Sext Star over the edge, however, was when Pentagon Jr. attempted to make the ring announcer his sacrifice. Sexy Star is ready to avenge the sacrifices of Pentagon Jr..

Sexy Star hits an emphatic Backstabber/Lungblower on Pentagon Jr. to pick up the victory and avenge the injured luchadores. Winner: Sexy Star

King Cuerno, Cage & Texano vs. Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, & Angélico, vs. The Mack, Big Ryck, & Killshot – Trios Championship (Elimination Tag Team Match)
Big Ryck is the only person in this match to assemble his team on his own, which might give his team the advantage in this match. Cuerno had his team personally assembled by Lucha Underground owner and promoter Dario Cueto, and the three impressive wrestlers have been working well together. Son of Havoc and his team have had no love lost between them, but they have somehow worked together well enough to earn the championship opportunity.

In this Trios elimination match, there are three luchadores in the ring at the same time. Each luchador must tag in a member of their own team, and if one member of any team takes a fall, their entire team is eliminated.

During the match, Texano gets knocked into the “honored guest” that has been seen over the last few weeks. The guest attacks Texano and sends him flying into the chairs. After Texano is reeling from the attack, Killshot hits Texano with a double foot stop from the top rope to eliminate his team. Eliminated: King Cuerno, Texano, & Cage

Killshot seems to have the match won, but the dysfunctional team of Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, and Angélico work well enough together to win the Trios Championship. Winners: Angélico, Son of Havoc, & Ivelisse

Dario Cueto exits his office to announce that there is one more team in the tournament, and the winner of the next match will win the Trios Championship.

Son of Havoc, Ivelisse, & Angélico vs. The Crew (Bael, Mr. Cisco, & Cortez Castro) – Trios Championship (No Disqualification)
The last time we have seen The Crew, they lost to Big Ryck in a 3-on-1 elimination handicap match. With Son of Havoc, Ivelisse, and Angélico already competing in a match, The Crew has the advantage.

Even though The Crew was fresh to start the match, Son of Havoc, Ivelisse, and Angélico worked together and overcame the odds to make Lucha Underground history. Winners, and FIRST-EVER Trios Champions: Son of Havoc, Ivelisse, & Angélico
