As the NCAA Tournament comes to a close, GMS likes to review some of the power conference or power program teams that made it to the Big Dance and ask whether or not they’ve got a shot to return to the show next season. We kick things off with teams eliminated in the first round.
Recruit and Reload: Texas Tech Red Raiders
Key Losses: Devaugntah Williams, Toddrick Gotcher
Key Returners: Norense Odiase, Aaron Ross, Zach Smith, Justin Gray, Keenan Evans
Key Newcomers: Keon Clergeot (three-star)
Breakdown: Tubby Smith finally got his break through in Lubbock this season by reaching the NCAA Tournament, and with the amount that the Red Raiders have returning, it’s not too much of a stretch to say that this group should challenge for another spot next season.
The core five that he returns all averaged more than eight points per game and will all be in their third and fourth seasons. They’ve been through the rigors of a Big 12 schedule, faced the bright lights of the Big Dance. Now, they’ll shoot for playing for a better seed late in the season rather than just a spot at all.
