Week 5 of the Major League Soccer season continues this weekend. With seven games on the schedule for Friday and Saturday, there is plenty of MLS fantasy action to play. That means there will be plenty of options to choose from when it comes to building a winning roster in DraftKings Daily Fantasy Leagues. We have taken the time to break down the numbers and provide you with an ideal combination of star talent and strong sleeper options. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings MLS Daily Fantasy Leagues.
GK: David Ousted, Vancouver
Salary: $3,700
Vancouver has allowed just one goal while running their undefeated streak to three in a row. Ousted has consistently been one of the top fantasy performers in the MLS over that span yet he is still available at a very reasonable $3.7K. That is an excellent price heading in to a matchup with a DC United side that is still looking for its first win of the season so lock in Ousted as the top MLS fantasy goalkeeper in DraftKings tournaments this week.
D: Jordan Harvey, Vancouver
Salary: $3,500
Harvey doesn’t offer much offensive upside but he is a solid defender that will benefit from the potential clean sheet against DC United. Look for Harvey to gain some important points with his defensive stats with the bonus making him worth the price in Daily Fantasy Leagues.
D: Matt Hedges, FC Dallas
Salary: $3,200
FC Dallas has gone undefeated in its last three games while outscoring its opponents by a combined 6-1 score over that span. They should have the edge again with San Jose in town this weekend and Hedges is available at a very reasonable price on DraftKings.
D: Zach Loyd, FC Dallas
Salary: $2,900
We have no problem doubling up on our bet that FC Dallas will come out with the win at home this weekend with Loyd joining his teammate on our back line. Neither defender has a very high level of offensive potential but they are both good bets for solid defensive stats and a potential clean sheet bonus with the Earthquakes in town.
M: Mauro Diaz, FC Dallas
Salary: $7,400
After saving big time by spending less than a combined $10K on our three defender spots, it’s time to load up with superstar talent at the midfield and forward positions. Diaz leads the MLS with four assists this season and he should lead to his team-leading five points against San Jose this Saturday.
M: Pedro Morales, Vancouver
Salary: $5,600
It only makes sense to follow up this MLS assists leader with the early frontrunner for the MLS Golden Boot award in Morales. The Whitecaps FC midfielder leads all scorers this season with four goals with each of them coming on penalty kicks. It’s only a matter of time before Morales scores a goal during live action and there is a good chance it happens this weekend against a DC United team that is still looking for its first win of the year.
M: Marco Pappa, Colorado
Salary: $5,500
Colorado has scored exactly one goal in each of its last three games but that has been enough to post a 2-0-1 record over that span. The Rapids aren’t an elite offensive team but Pappa is off to a solid start with two assists in four games. Colorado is set to visit a Real Salt Lake side that has allowed 1.5 goals per game this season so they should be able to create some offensive opportunities with Pappa at the heart of their attack.
F: Joao Plata, Real Salt Lake
Salary: $5,600
RSL may be conceding more than a goal per game but they are also scoring a good number of goals too and that is why they are still undefeated on the campaign. RSL has averaged exactly 2.0 goals per game while going 2-0-2 so far and they could be in line for another high scoring affair this weekend. Plata has been an absolute fantasy stud early on this season with three goals and three assists through four games and at under $6K he should be a lock in every DraftKings lineup.
F: Max Urruti, FC Dallas
Salary: $5,500
Speaking of excellent value plays, it’s hard to argue against having Urruti in your lineup this weekend. The 25-year-old Argentinian striker has three goals with 17 shots through five games and should be in line to add to those totals with a home game against San Jose this weekend. The fact that he is available at under $6K makes him that much more enticing of a fantasy asset from FC Dallas.
FLEX: Fraser Aird, Vancouver
Salary: $3,700
It wouldn’t be possible to load up on star players in the midfield and at forward if we didn’t have smart sleeper plays available to us at the FLEX positions and that is exactly what Aird is. The Whitecaps should have no problem taking care of business against DC United and that makes Aird a quality play at $3.7K.
FLEX: Roland Aiberg, Philadelphia
Salary: $3,200
Aiberg might not be the most reliable player from an offensive perspective but he should play the full 90 minutes for Philadelphia when they host Orlando this Friday night. Aiberg will handle his defensive duties and serve us as the player with the highest upside of those remaining on the board that we can still afford.
