Spence Jr vs Algieri Boxing Odds – The Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn plays host to a huge night of boxing on Saturday, April 16th. The main event of the 11-fight card sees undefeated prospect Errol Spence Jr (19-0) taking on Chris Algieri (21-2) in a 12-round bout. The fights are part of the Premier Boxing Champions series and will air in NBC in the United States. starting at 8:30 Eastern Standard time.
Algieri is the New Yorker fighting at home, and he is making his return to his base having made a mark in the welterweight division. Algieri first came into prominence when he defeated Ruslan Provodnikov as an underdog to win the WBO’s World title at 140 lbs. For that fight, all that was known about him was that he had a kickboxing background. He parlayed that victory into a big money fight with Manny Pacquiao, and Pac-man dismantled him quickly. He survived, however, and in follow-up fights with Amir Khan and Erick Bone Algieri was much improved.
But it is Spence Jr that is the prospect in this fight. Algieri will be his sternest test to date, but Spence Jr comes with a high level amateur pedigree that blends technique, power and speed into a potential total package. Now he just has to show it.
People don’t know more about Spence because he is a quiet, mild mannered fighter out of Texas. He was a member of the ill-fated 2012 U.S. Olympic Boxing team that did not medal. Now, going on four years since that amateur disaster for the US, many of the members of the Olympic team have started to rise to the top as amateurs, and Spence Jr is one of the best of that bunch. Spence Jr is motivated in this fight to become the first fighter to stop Algieri, which would serve notice that Spence Jr’s time has arrived. New York City and NBC show that the Premier Boxing Champions are prepared to present Spence Jr on their biggest stages.
