Copper Box Odds – London, England hosts a big night of boxing this Saturday April 30th. Promoter Frank Warren has fifteen fights in all planned for the live event, with five of the fights already getting a look from the sport books.
This card was supposed to have been headlined by WBO World middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders’ title defense against Max Bursak, but Saunders had to pull out due to a hand injury. The main event now sees heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (19-0) vie for the vacant WBO International title at heavyweight as he faces veteran Fred Kassi (18-4-1). Fury is just 21-years-old and he was thrust into the main event because of a cancellation, and this is not a main event caliber fight. As the cousin of World Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, Hughie is getting a lot of attention but his camp has been promising a step-up fight for a long time now and they have failed to deliver again.

Luckily for promoter Warren, he has three other regional title fights on the card.
The most competitive line on the card comes in the BBBofC British featherweight title bout between champion Ryan Walsh (20-1-1) and challenger James Tennyson (16-1). Tennyson enters the fight a slight favorite, as “The Assassin” has finished 7 of his last 8 fights inside the distance. Tennyson is from Belfast, Northern Ireland, so the full Britain vs Ireland rivalry is in effect and may be affecting the line somewhat. The truth is that Tennyson has not had an really top flight competition throughout his career and the level of opponents he has faced does not match that of Walsh.
Also getting attention is the 6-round bout that sees India’s Vijender Singh look to go to 5-0 as he faces trial horse Matiouze Royer (14-24-). Singh is a 2008 Olympian who won a medal representing India, which gives him potential access to that vast market. We are not likely to see the 30-year-old who turned pro just last October in a hard fight any time soon. Walsh has won four fights in a row since the first loss of his career, but that came against Lee Selby, who has since gone on to win a world title. As much backing as Tennyson has behind him, he has nothing like a Lee Selby anywhere on his resume. This will be Walsh’s second title defense.
