The best golfers in the world have made the trip to TPC Sawgrass in Florida this week for the unofficial “fifth major” in The Players Championship this week. That means plenty of tough decisions to make when it comes to building the optimal lineup in DraftKings fantasy tournaments. We took the time to break down the field and find the perfect combination of star talent and strong sleeper value plays to help you gain an edge and make some serious cash. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA Daily Fantasy Leagues.
Rory McIlroy, $11,700
McIlroy is the most expensive option on the board this week for a reason as he has thrived at this course over the last three years and is in decent form heading in to this week. McIlroy didn’t win the Wells Fargo Championship but he surged in the final round with an impressive 66 to finished tied for fourth. He has also placed in the top-10 at this tournament in each of the last three years so it’s hard to ignore him as the betting favorite to win this tournament outright and the best available option on this board.
Jordan Spieth, $11,400
There isn’t much that needs to be said about locking up the top two options on the board besides the fact that we wouldn’t be able to do it if we hadn’t already identified some excellent value options to plug in with the remaining cash we have available to spend. Spieth is coming off a runner-up finish at The Masters and he has strung together four consecutive top-20 finishes in stroke-play events. Even with some incredible numbers there are some that still feel Spieth’s best is yet to come this year so we will use him in this spot and hope he can break through with a victory this week.
Danny Lee, $7,500
Lee is coming off a top-10 finish at Quail Hollow last week and we are hoping that he can build off the 67 he fired in the final round of the Wells Fargo Championship this week. Lee has somewhat struggled with consistency at times throughout this season, but he is coming off his best finish so far this year and his price point makes him a decent option for this week at TPC Sawgrass if he can build off his most recent performance.
Graham DeLaet, $6,900
DeLaet is an intriguing play again this week because of his high upside and low price tag. The Canadian is still looking for his first victory but he has already registered a pair of top-10 finishes this year including finishing fifth at the Valspar Championship. At $6.9K it’s hard to ignore him in this spot. We need somebody who has high upside and won’t cost us a fortune after we spent so much on Spieth and McIlroy.
Scott Piercy, $6,300
Piercy hasn’t played since he finished tied for 29th at Augusta so he should be well rested heading in to this event. Piercy has already registered top-20 finishes at the Shell Houston Open and the WGC-Cadillac Championship and he has made the cut in 10 of his 11 starts this season so he is worth taking a chance on here to help balance out our lineup.
David Hearn, $6,100
With just over $6K remaining for our final selection we feel very comfortable turning to Hearn with the hope that the veteran golfer can step up his game this week. Hearn has made the cut in each of his four starts at The Players Championship including two years ago when he tied for sixth at this tournament. Hearn is coming off a missed cut at the Wells Fargo Championship but he had registered a pair of top-20 finishes in his previous two starts. We are banking on him bouncing back with a strong outing as a legitimate sleeper option this week. We don’t need him to win the event (although that would be fantastic), but what we are at least hoping for is that he’ll make the cut.
