On last week’s episode of Lucha Underground, every single match that took place was for one of the seven Aztec medallions. The Mack, Siniestro de la Muerte, and Cage would defeat Marty “The Moth” Martinez, King Cuerno, and Mascarita Sagrada, respectively, to win, or in Cage’s case, retain, an Aztec medallion.
The main event of the evening was also for an Aztec medallion, but that was set aside because of the personal conflict that surrounded the match. Sexy Star took on Mariposa, who along with Marty “The Moth” Martinez, kidnapped Sexy Star and seemingly tortured her. Sexy Star fought an uphill battle, but after fighting all over the Temple, she was able to get revenge on Mariposa and win the Aztec medallion.
Tonight’s episode of Lucha Underground features a Trios Championship match. The main event of the evening will be Graver Consequences, which is a coffin match between Mil Muertes and Matanza Cueto for the Lucha Underground Championship.
Opening Segment
Lucha Underground owner and promoter Dario Cueto is talking to a mysterious man, and hands him a parcel with unknown contents. The man warns Cueto that the Temple is under investigation, and the man’s “employer” will be by the Temple soon.
Mr. Cisco vs. Cortez Castro vs. Joey Ryan – Aztec Medallion Match
During the Trios tournament, all three of these competitors were on the same team. They would end up failing to win the tournament, and an Aztec medallion is guaranteed to help one of these men further their careers. The Aztec medallion owners compete for the Gift of the Gods Championship, which the title holder can cash in for a guaranteed Lucha Underground Championship opportunity.
Joey Ryan watches for most of the match, then finds an opportunity to roll up Cortez Castro with a School Boy pin for the win and the Aztec Medallion. Winner: Joey Ryan
Rey Mysterio, Prince Puma, & Dragon Azteca Jr. (c) vs. Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, & Johnny Mundo (w/Taya) – Lucha Underground Trios Championship
In the second-ever Trios tournament, Son of Havoc and Ivelisse had to defend their Trios Championship titles against three other teams. Along with the natural disadvantage from a fatal four-way match, Havoc and Ivelisse had to defend their titles short handed due to an injured Angélico. Mysterio, Puma, and Azteca would win the match (along with the titles), and tonight, the former champions have their chance to regain the gold.
Due to Angélico’s injury, Dario Cueto made Johnny Mundo the third teammate for the former champions. The addition of Mundo helps the numbers game (especially with Taya at ringside), but Mundo is not the most trustworthy of luchadores.
Prince Puma hits an always-impressive 630 Splash on Son of Havoc to win the match and help his team retain the Trios Championships. Winners, and STILL Trios Champions: Rey Mysterio, Prince Puma, & Dragon Azteca Jr.
After the match, Taya blames Ivelisse for the loss and attacks her from behind.
Matanza Cueto (c) (w/Dario Cueto) vs. Mil Muertes (w/Catrina) – Lucha Underground Championship (Graver Consequences)
Both of these monsters have faced each other once before for the Lucha Underground Championship, but the match went to a “no contest” after Muertes landed a Flatliner through the ceiling of Dario Cueto’s office. Muertes has experience in the only other Grave Consequences match, when he lost to Fenix by getting put in a coffin. It is uncertain whether or not the match experience will help Muertes, but either way, Matanza Cueto is nowhere close to an easy feat.
Matanza Cueto lays out Catrina with a chair shot, and puts her, along with the Aztec stone, in one of the coffins. After Muertes fights back, Matanza Cueto is able to put him away with the Wrath of the Gods into the coffin, shutting the lid, and retaining the title.
