The PGA Tour left Teas for Dublin, Ohio this week with the Memorial tournament set to take place at the Muirfield Village Golf Club. The annual event is hosted by Jack Nicklaus and will feature a star-studded field led by Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy. The circumstances for this week’s tournament are particularly unique with each of the big three coming off wins and since we can’t afford them all in DraftKings tournaments, we will have to get creative in order to create a winning lineup. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA tournaments.
Jordan Spieth, $12,300
Spieth, Day and McIlroy are each listed at over $12 K so we were forced to choose one and we decided on Spieth as the best bet for this week. Day’s best finish at this course was 27th back in 2009 and after what we saw from Spieth at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational last week, we like him to produce a better result than McIlroy. It’s completely understandable if you have your doubts. Remember that before last week’s win, Spieth had actually hit a rough patch. He finished 13th at the Shell Houston Open, then finished second at The Masters but blew his comfortable lead in the final, then he got cut at THE PLAYERS Championship, and finished 18th at the AT&T Byron Nelson. But we’re banking on his win last week along with his history on the course to pave the way for a good result.
Spieth finished tied for third here last year after narrowly missing out on a playoff and with top-20’s in each of his last two seasons here, he should have no problem building on last weeks victory with another strong performance as the best bet of the big three.
Hideki Matsuyama, $10,600
Matsuyama followed up a win at the Memorial Tournament with a T-5th here a year ago so there is no doubt about his status as a horse for the course this week. Matsuyama has been incredibly consistent overall and the fact that he is available at such a reasonable price in DraftKings contests should make him a lock to have in the majority of lineups for this week.
Kevin Kisner, $8,600
Kisner’s play has tailed off a little bit since his win at The RSM Classic to open the year but he is coming off a strong performance at Colonial last week where he finished T-10th after firing a 66 in the final round. Kisner’s strong all-around game should translate well at this course. He finished T-8th at the Memorial Tournament a year ago.
David Hearn, $6,700
Hearn remains one of the strongest value plays on the board in DratKings tournaments once again this week and the fact that he is available at under $7K should make him one of the best bets on the board. Hearn has finished in the top 30 in four of his last five starts including a T-17th at Colonial last week so he should make for an excellent sleeper play once again for the Memorial Tournament.
Zac Blair, $6,000
Rolling with Spieth, Matsuyama and Kisner requires making sacrifices elsewhere and that means finding some strong value options with Blair a perfect fit. He hasn’t played at the highest level of late but his all-around game should translate well at this course. He could be primed for a strong bounce back effort as another strong sleeper value option to consider. We don’t need him to win the event here. We’d just like him to make the cut and finish respectably.
Hudson Swafford, $5,800
The fact that we see potential in a golfer listed at under $6K is a major bonus for us as it allows us to spend more money elsewhere while still feeling comfortable that each of our selections can produce. Swafford has made the cut in each of his last three events and he closed out last week’s tournament with a 68 to finish in the top-50. He might not place in the top-25 but Swafford should still be a strong pick to hold his own as a deeper sleeper value option to complete our DraftKings lineup for the Memorial.
