Joshua vs Breazeale: Odds For Saturday’s Heavyweight Showdown

Joshua vs Breazeale Odds For Sat

Joshua vs Breazeale Odds For Saturday – Big time boxing hits the O2 Arena in London this Saturday, June 25th, as promoter Eddie Hearn is putting on a huge card that sees the featured fights airing on Sky Box Office in the UK and on Showtime in the United States.

The main event is the highly anticipated first IBF world heavyweight title defense for Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) as he faces the challenge of Dominic Breazeale (17-0, 15 KOs).

Joshua captured the world title on April 9th when he scored an easy 2nd round stoppage over American Charles Martin. Despite a short 4-year pro career, Joshua is one of boxing’s biggest stars already. Before turning pro, Joshua captured an Olympic gold medal at the London Olympic games so he has thoroughly captured the imagination of the London crowd. For starters, Breazeale will be walking into the lion’s den for this fight. In April, Martin appeared frozen, and the raucous London atmosphere may have had something to do with that.

Breazeale also went to the 2012 Olympics representing the USA, but his Olympic record reads “one and done” as he was eliminated in his opening fight. Prior to that he was a football quarterback and is considered athletic for his size. And as for size, he will have a slight height and reach advantage over Joshua heading into the fight. Breazeale’s advantages end there, as the sport books have Joshua a massive favorite. The over/under line is set at 3 1/2, so you see Joshua is expected to get Breazeale out of there quickly. For his part, Joshua said in a media call earlier this week that the fight “can’t go past four rounds.”

The co-feature comes in the 168-pound category and it matches up two of England’s most popular fighters when George Groves takes on Martin Murray. The line at the sports books for this fight is the most competitive one being offered, as both men really need a win. Murray is 33-3-1 overall in his career and he has been busy, going 4-1 in the last year after a February of 2015 loss to Gennady Golovkin. The other loss, to Arthur Abraham, was via close split decision for the WBO version of the world belt. Groves is 2-0 since his September of 2015 loss to Badou Jack with the IBF world belt on the line. Both men are eager to stay in the world title picture. The fight is for Groves’ WBA International belt, which he is defending for the first time.
