International Boxing Odds – With a big weekend of boxing ahead, the sports books are carrying several lines from around the world for this coming Friday and Saturday. Though none of the lines are extremely competitive, several world titles are on the line, as well as several fighters looking to get their name back in the mix of contenders.
In Dallas on Saturday, Texas Top Rank is promoting an event at The Bomb Factory that features the return of former top middleweight prospect Matt Korobov. Korobov (25-1) is facing veteran Brian Vera (23-10) in a fight that is scheduled for 8 rounds. Korobov took the lone loss of career in December of 2014 when he lost to Andy Lee in a bid to grab the vacant WBO world title at 160 pounds. Until that point, the undefeated Korobov was being featured as a top gun in the middleweight division by Top Rank. The loss was followed by 13 months away from the ring, as Korobov sat out all of 2015. He returned in January of 2016 and this is his second fight since.
Vera is a bit of a name, as many will remember his pair of fights with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr back in 2013 and 2014, but he has lost 4 in a row and has not looked good doing it. Vera is a tough guy by nature, and he has even competed in fights that were under different rule formats. Though Vera has fought 10 and 12 round bouts in boxing since 2008, he accepted the eight rounder here and he is being looked at as a tune up for Korobov.

In China on Friday, undefeated Javier Fortuna (29-0-1) looks to upgrade his interim WBA super featherweight belt as he faces Jason Sosa (18-1-4). Fortuna has been looking for a high profile camp for a while, and this is not it. In Sosa, he gets a fighter who earned a draw against Nicholas Walters in his last outing, but that fight was his first fight on the world level, while Fortuna has been there a while.
Back to Saturday in Mexico, the IBF 105 pound title is up for grabs between champion Jose Argumedo (17-3-1) and Julo Mendoza (11-4). Argumedo did th eseemingly impossible, winning the IBF belt in Tokyo on New Years Eve against Katsunari Takayama. This is his first defense, and after winning the belt on the road, he is getting some home cooking and a second tier opponent, so he is entering the fight a major favorite.
