Dustin Johnson capitalized on another golfer fading down the stretch at the Bridgestone Invitational, teen sensation Brooke Henderson continued her dominance on the LPGA at the Portland Classic and the 100th Open de France was on by the eldest victor in the tournament’s storied history. Here is a quick recap of the events from around the golf fantasy world this past weekend.

Dustin Johnson remained hot for golf fantasy purposes. He added a win at the Bridgestone Invitational to his impressive 2016 resume and this time around, it was he who took advantage of a major collapse from another top golfer. World No. 1 Jason Day fell apart down the back stretch at the Firestone Country Club when he followed up a bogey with a double-bogey on 16, which opened the door for Johnson to secure his second win of the season. The U.S. Open champion shot a four-under-par final round of 66 to secure his second victory in as many tournaments. Johnson has now strung together four-straight top-five finishes including the two victories heading in to The Open championship in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, Day finished tied for third at three-under along with a handful of other notables including Matt Kuchar, Kevin Chappell and Jordan Spieth while Scott Piercy finished second. Spieth was a popular play in golf fantasy and while he showed well, he finished just below the cusp.

Our golf fantasy recap of the EPGA focuses in on Thongchai Jaidee. He led from the front to claim the 100th Open de France title over the weekend in Paris as he opened the final round with a two-shot lead and never conceded it en route to victory. At 46-years-old, Jaidee is the oldest winner ever at the prestigious event as he finished four strokes ahead of Francesco Molinari for the victory. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy entered the final round in position to challenge Jaidee for the outright win but shot a 71 to finish third at six-under. Rafael Cabrera Bello finished fourth followed by Brandon Stone, Andy Sullivan and Martin Kaymer in a tie for fifth.

Portland Classic
LPGA Tour
Our golf fantasy recap in the LPGA begins with the scintillating Canadian…once again. 18-year-old Brook Henderson did it again at the LPGA’s longest-running non-major as she shot a final round 1-under 71 to win the Portland Classic by four strokes. The second-ranked Henderson fired a 14-under for the tournament and while she didn’t dominate the way she did a year ago she was able to survive her own mistakes and show an element of poise and confidence under pressure on her way to victory. There was a clear opening for Henderson to take control as she’s been one of three players to dominate the lady’s side of things this year. However, the other two big guns, world No. 1 Lydia Ko and rookie sensation Ariya Jutanugarn, were absent from this week’s field. That meant Henderson was the top dog and she capitalized on it.
Henderson became the tour’s second wire-to-wire winner this year as she joined Ha Na Jang in that category after the latter did so at the Coates Championship back in February. It was Henderson’s third-career win and second in the last month after she won her first major at the Women’s PGA Championship. Meanwhile, Stacy Lewis finished second at 10-under followed by Suzann Pettersen at nine-under and Austin Ernst and Mariajo Uribe tied for fourth at eight under.
In terms of some other golf fantasy news, it was a good week for Americans as seven players finished tied for 13th or better.
