LeSean McCoy didn’t quite get out of Philadelphia scott free when the Eagles traded him to the Buffalo Bills before last season. McCoy was part of an investigation into a bar brawl in which two off-duty cops were hurt. The good news for McCoy is, as of Friday, any charges McCoy would have faced for his part in the fight have been dropped.

McCoy had originally been cut loose from any charges after Seth Williams, Philly’s District Attorney, announced he couldn’t determine who started the fight. The Attorney General’s office didn’t buy that at first, but after looking into it agreed with Williams’ call.
“The Attorney General, after an independent investigation, has determined that the District Attorney did not abuse his discretion,” McCoy’s attorney, Dennis Cogan, told ESPN.
According to Cogan, McCoy was the peacemaker during the fight, trying to break up an altercation over a $350 bottle of champagne.
It’s good news for McCoy on the legal end, but it’s not the end of the story. The two cops, Roland Butler and Darnell Jesse, still think there’s money to be made and according to their lawyer, the AG’s decision “will have no impact on the police officer’s pursuit of justice. They’ve suffered serious and permanent injuries as a result of the vicious beatings.”
Incidentally, both cops are back on the job, so whatever “permanent” injuries they suffered must be, shall we say, scrotal.
Broncos and Miller finally talking
Just seven days away from the franchise tag deadline, the Denver Broncos and All-Universe outside linebacker Von Miller are finally talking a final deal. The issue with the contract, a six-year, $114.5 million offer, is in guaranteed money. Reportedly the Broncos are ready to budge on that.
It’s been all silent of the Miller front for the last month. Broncos general manager John Elway contacted Miller for the first time since negotiations broke down on July 4 and they reportedly spent 10-to-15 minutes talking.

Miller, the Super Bowl 50 MVP, has publicly stated he won’t play in 2016 under the franchise tag. Does he mean it? I have no idea, but I don’t think the Broncos want to test him either. I wouldn’t be surprised to see all this worked out by Monday or Tuesday.
Last year Miller had 30 tackles, 11 sacks, one pass defended, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He added an interception. two passes defended, two forced fumbles, 11 tackles and five sacks in the playoffs.

His status seems to change every week, but Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins took a significant step in returning to the playing field this week when he was running sprints Friday. He posted one of the runs to his Instagram account.

After predicting he’d be ready for training camp, Watkins backtracked on that last week. The team will be careful with him regardless and probably hold him out of the preseason altogether.
Last year Watkins played in 14 games, catching 60 passes for 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns. He averaged 17.5 yards per catch.
Goodwin’s Olympic dream ends
When the United States Track and Field Olympic trials started, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was one of the favorites not only to get to the 2016 Olympics in Rio, but to medal in the long jump. It wasn’t to be.
Last week in Eugene, Ore. Goodwin finished seventh. Only the top three finishes get to go to the Olympics. Goodwin made the Olympic team in 2012 and finished 10th in the London games.

Still, it wasn’t all bad news for Goodwin.
“Now that this is over, I get to stop eating like a bird and get into some real food,” Goodwin told NewYorkUpstate. “I’m going to rest first, though. I haven’t had any rest in a long time so my body is banged up. I feel like I played eight or nine games and I’m in Week 10 already.”
Goodwin won’t have too long to rest. The Bills open training camp at the end of the month.
