Wilder vs Arreola Odds – The Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama hosts the FOX Network on Saturday, July 16th for a full night of boxing headlined by WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 25 KOs) defending his belt against veteran Chris Arreola (36-4-1, 31 KOs).
For Wilder, he is making the fourth defense of his WBC title, and the Alabama native is fighting in his home state in this one. With the fight on FOX, Wilder is being featured on free television, and at the very least Arreola is a sturdy opponent.
Most of Arreola’s critics don’t even give him that much credit. The veteran fighter has been plagued by poor work ethic, and he has several suspensions for recreational drugs that have marred his career. As for Arreola’s chin, it took all Vitali Klitschko had to offer back in 2009, but Bermane Stiverne and Travis Kauffman have dropped Arreola since.

You cannot blame Wilder for trying to “sneak” an easy fight on his schedule. He was supposed to fight mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin in Russia back on May 21st, but that fight fell through a week prior due to a failed drug test by Povetkin. Fighting Povetkin on the road in the Russian’s hometown was certainly a challenge for Wilder, and the last minute cancellation was deflating. Beyond that, Wilder was going to make somewhere close to $5 million for the fight, so the lost payday may have been the biggest blow of all to him and his team.
Povetkin and his promoter Andrey Ryabinsky have filed a lawsuit against Wilder and his promoter as they are looking to have the Wilder versus Povetkin fight before the end of the year. It may be of importance that Ryabinsky did not try to block the Wilder vs Arreola fight and his lawsuit did not include the WBC, so the Russian team is apparently leaving the door open for a settlement.
Waiting in the wings for Wilder in 2017 is England’s Anthony Joshua. Joshua, a 2012 Olympic gold medalist and the IBF World Heavyweight champion recently defeated American Dominic Breazeale in his first title defense, and afterwards his camp was not subtle about wanting to fight Deontay Wilder and about wanting to fight in America.
