Wales Boxing Odds – The Ice Arena in Cardiff, Wales hosts Frank Warren and his Queensbury Promotions present a fourteen fight card headline by two world title fights.
WBO world lightweight champion Terry Flanagan (30-0) defends his title against Mzonke Fana (38-9) in a match that will see Flanagan a huge favorite heading in. Flanagan is a crafty southpaw who figures to have an easy time with Fana. This will be his third title defense, and he is not taking any risks in that Fana is 42 years old and well past his best years. To his credit, Fana has been active, fighting six times in 2015 and going 4-2. Credit yes, but how that qualifies you for a world title fight is beyond me. Hopefully Flanagan will step up the competition level for his next outing.
Making his debut in England on this card is Cuba’s Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0) as he defends his WBA “Super World” belt at 122 pounds against James Dickens (22-1). For Rigondeaux, he needs a win that showcases his talent and adds to his highlight reel, as recent outings have been lackluster. Rigo was with Top Rank as a promoter in the United States, but that relation came apart partially because Rigondeaux can be less than a crowd-pleaser. Here, he is hoping to make an impression beyond bringing a big reputation, and at 35 years old he should realize there could be future fights in England against the likes of Scott Quigg if he doesn’t stink up the joint here.
At 154 pounds, BBBofC Commonwealth and British titleholder Liam Smith (14-0-1) will be defending his belt against Gary Corcoran (15-0). Because this fight invokes the British regional rivalry of Wales (Smith) vs London (Corcoran) and because it has the most competitive odds of the fights being offered at the sports books, this is the de facto main event of the show. Corcoran has gone the distance in his last three outings, while Smith has logged five stoppage wins in a row.
Also on the card is WBO European welterweight champion Bradley Skeete (23-1) as he defends his belt against Alexandre Lepelley (19-6-1). In the middleweight division, Tommy Langford (16-0) defends his WBO Inter-Continental belt against Timo Laine (15-6). The rest of the card features matches of four, six and eight rounds.

At the end of the day, the card is solid, and promoter Warren deserves credit. This is the show that was originally headlined by the world heavyweight title rematch between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko, but that fight was postponed until October because of an ankle injury suffered by Fury. Once that fight was off the card, the event took a decidely “regional” edge to it, since both the world champions putting their belts on the line enjoy massive odds to win.
