Crowell and Grimes Have Social Media Mishaps

Isaiah Crowell should have pulled a Tom Brady on his cell phone.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks in the United States and if anything, sports news has been a nice break from all the chaos and death. Even when athletes choose to chime in, it’s usually in a positive manner, offering hope and unity. Cleveland Browns running back Isaiah Crowell viewed events a little differently.

Last week Crowell posted an image to his instagram depicting a man slitting a police officer’s throat with the caption, “They give police all types of weapons and they continually choose to kill us… #weak.”

In light of nationwide calls for unity, nonviolence and justice it was a loaded image to be sure and Crowell deleted it soon after he posted it. You can google the image if you want. I won’t share it here. It didn’t keep the image from going viral and getting Crowell in trouble with the Browns. Because of that, Crowell issued an apology Monday.

Crowell has yet to be disciplined by the team and it’s unlikely he’ll be cut. The Browns have said that they want the young running back to be a positive force for change, and not contribute to any divisions in the community and country.

“We have spoken to Isaiah regarding his extremely disturbing and unacceptable social media decision,” The Browns’ statement said. “It was completely inappropriate and we have made him aware of our high level of disappointment. Isaiah has apologized but also knows that just an apology is insufficient and that he must take steps to make a positive difference after a very negative and impactful post.”

The Cleveland Police Patrolman’s Association has taken issue with the lack of any significant punishment aimed at Crowell. Stephen Loomis, president of the CPPA, has threatened to halt security operations for the Browns.

“I will pull Cleveland officers, sheriffs, state troopers out of FirstEnergy Stadium this season if he doesn’t make it right,” Loomis told Cleveland.com. “You’re a grown-ass man and you claim you were too emotional to know it was wrong? Think we’ll accept your apology? Kiss my ass.”

The 23-year-old running back is entering his third season with the Browns. Last year he carried the ball 185 times for 706 yards and four touchdowns. He had 19 catches for 182 yards and one touchdown.

Crowell and the law have a complicated history. After being arrested on a felony weapons charge in 2012 he was kicked off the University of Georgia football team. He finished his college career at Alabama State and signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2014.

Brent Grimes’ wife continues to be an issue

Brent Grimes has been a star cornerback in the league for years, but he’s had one problem he hasn’t been able to shake; his wife.

The three-time pro bowl defensive back can’t seem to shake his loudmouth spouse, Miko Grimes, who evidently has a local talk radio show in Florida. Her latest post to get Grimes in the news is, well, I’ll just let Miko speak for herself.

Since she’s turned off the automatic link and blocked her twitter, I’ll have to quote it as she speaks of Brent’s former team, the Miami Dolphins.

“Gotta respect (Miami Dolphins owner Stephen) Ross for keeping his jew buddies employed but did he not see how tannenbaum put the jets in the dumpster w/that sanchez deal?”

Is that racist? Sure. Is it stupid? Oh yes, but it’s even dumber when you realize that her husband Brent now plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who are owned by the Glazer family, all descendants of Jewish immigrants from Lithuania who had family members killed during the Holocaust.

This isn’t the first stupid thing Miko has done that has managed to blow up in his husband’s face and hurt his career. Ross even admitted this offseason that Miko was the main reason the Dolphins cut the Pro Bowl corner.

“I think everybody knows what she represented,” Ross told the Palm Beach Post. “I thought it was best that the Dolphins move on from Brent and Miko.

Oh, and there was also that time she caused a ruckus outside Dolphins stadium and had to be thrown to the ground and arrested. Oh look, here’s a video!
