UFC on FOX 20 Main Event Odds – This coming Saturday the UFC on Fox 20 comes to us live from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with a card headlined by the return of former women’s champion Holly Holm, as she takes on Valentina Shevchenko in a 5-round bantamweight bout.
A lot is going to be decided for Holly Holm’s future with this fight. The bottom line is that Holm is the woman who beat Ronda Rousey, but unlike Rousey, she did not just step to the UFC’s beat. Holm wanted to fight soon after the win and not wait for a Rousey rematch. UFC President Dana White did not like that, and he derided Holm and her team as “not smart” in public, among other things. Well, Holm fought and lost the title to Meisha Tate.
So now it is back to the drawing board for Holm. A win means that both her and the UFC can move on from the previous bad blood and start anew. The UFC should put her into the next title match with a win this Saturday, especially if Rousey continues to fatten up on the sidelines.
Shevchenko will go into the fight trying to avoid a two=fight losing streak. Her last outing was a loss to Amanda Nunes by a three round unanimous decision, but Nunes holds the UFC bantamweight title now, so extending the champion the full limit of a fight does not look as bad.
The co-feature comes in the lightweight division and features Gilbert Melendez taking on Edson Barbosa. Melendez is in dire need of a win. The former Strikeforce champion is just that, the former Strikeforce champion. That is the best thing on his resume, because since coming to the UFC he has been a dud, going 1-3. Toss in prolonged periods of inactivity, and “El Nino” is now firmly in his mid-30’s and not a kid anymore. If he is going to do anything else in his career, he has to start with this fight.
As for Barbosa, he needs a win. He has been alternating wins and losses for his last four fights and needs to start a streak. His last win over Anthony Pettis gives him a solid start to a win streak. Taking out Melendez in this fight would get him back moving up the food chain at lightweight.
In the heavyweight division, Frenchman Francis Ngannou looks to make it 3 in a row in the UFC as he takes on Bojan Mihajlovic. Mihajlovic is out of Serbia and he brings a 10-3 overall record to this, his UFC debut.
