The MLS fantasy season continues on Saturday with seven games on the schedule and that will mean plenty of options to choose from when building a winning MLS fantasy lineup in DraftKings fantasy competitions. We took the time to break down the numbers and player price tags to build what we feel is the perfect roster for this week’s tournaments. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for Saturday’s DraftKings MLS fantasy leagues.
GK: Alex Bono, Toronto FC
Salary: $4,100
Toronto FC has been on an incredible roll of late with four straight wins. Sebastian Giovinco and the TFC attack has been on fire with three goals or more in three of those four victories, but the defensive play has been solid as well with a combined two goals conceded over the four wins. We will bank on Toronto extending its outstanding win streak on Saturday as they head on the road to face a Houston side that currently owns the worst record in the Western Conference.
D: Steve Birnbaum, DC United
Salary: $4,200
Birnbaum was all over the pitch for DC United in their 2-2 draw with Philadelphia last week, including the dramatic goal right before the final whistle that helped his side salvage an important point against the Union. There is no doubt that DC United has to be better in its own end versus Portland this week but Birnbaum’s strong play combined with his potential to contribute at the offensive end of the pitch makes him an intriguing defender option for this week’s MLS fantasy contests.
D: Drew Moor, Toronto FC
Salary: $3,900
It only makes sense to double down with at least one reasonably priced defender from the Toronto roster and Moor is the perfect fit. He might not be the biggest threat to contribute at the offensive end of the pitch but Moor does have two goals this season and could be in line for a clean sheet bonus if TFC can shut down the Dynamo attack this weekend.
M: Brad Davis, Sporting KC
Salary: $5,500
Sporting Kansas City is coming off a tough 3-0 loss to Portland that ended its mini win streak last week. They will be in tough to bounce back this week against FC Dallas but they did outscore Seattle and Portland by a combined 4-0 score in their previous two games so we will take a chance on Davis hoping he can deliver this week.
M: Sean Davis, New York Red Bulls
Salary: $3,400
The New York Red Bulls have another Davis we are willing to take a chance on this week although Sean is the more appropriately priced option at just $3.4K. Davis registered just his second point of the season in last week’s 2-2 draw with the LA Galaxy and at such a low price we will double down on him with the hope that he can deliver again versus Montreal this week.
F: Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto FC
Salary: $14,500
Giovinco has been absolutely on fire over the past few weeks and at this point there is simply no doubt that he should be on every single roster. Giovinco has recorded at least three points in three of Toronto’s last four wins and he now leads the entire MLS with 15 goals. The fact that his price tag has been raised to $14.5K makes him by far the most expensive player on the board this week but there is no doubt he is worth breaking the bank for heading in to a matchup versus Houston.
F: David Villa, New York City FC
Salary: $10,500
Villa’s pace has slowed dramatically over the past couple of weeks but a home game versus Columbus might be exactly what he needs to break through. Villa’s 13 goals this season rank second in the MLS and pairing him with Giovinco will give us the most lethal striker combination on the board for this week’s fantasy contests.
FLEX: Marlon Hairston, Colorado
Salary: $3,700
Hairston was outstanding in Colorado’s 2-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps last week and at just $3.7K, he makes for the perfect option at the FLEX position. Hairston had a goal and an assist in last week’s victory and while another multi-point effort might be too much to expect we are certainly hoping he can deliver with at least a point this week against the LA Galaxy.
