Aside from the Golovkin – Brook main event, two other world title fights are scheduled. IBF world bantamweight champion Lee Haskins (33-3) faces off against Stuart Hall (20-4-2) in a bout scheduled for twelve rounds. For Haskins, he is coming off a UD win over Ivan Morales this past May that upgraded him from interim titleholder to hold the full title. This is his first defense of the full title, and it comes against Hall, who formerly held this same belt briefly, winning the vacant title in December of 2013 and earning a draw in his first title defense to keep the belt before losing it to Martin Ward in June of 2014. Hall lost a followup attempt to grab the belt when undefeated Randy Caballero outpointed him in October of 23014, but he has gone 4-0 since then. Those fights however are mainly of the 6 and 8 round type against average opposition. Hall is looking for one last chance to grab back the world title here, and he likely would not have gotten this chance if he wasn’t facing another Briton in a fight that is really a regional level fight.
The second title fight on the card sees IBF world flyweight champion John Riel Casimero of the Philippines (22-3) defend his belt against England’s Charlie Edwards (8-0). This weight class typically does not get a lot of attention in the UK, but the 23 year old Edwards is attemptin to capture the imagination of the British boxing public. Caimero is a 26 year old who is coming off a title win against long time champion Amnat Ruenroeng. Casimero is a bit of a road warrior, as he has fought in China, Argentina, Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua and South Africa so the long trip to England should be something Casimero adjusts to. Edwards had a long amateur career and is considered a bit of a protege, so this fight sees the closest line of the evening as Edwards goes for a fast tracked world title.
At super featherweight, Martin Joseph Ward (14-0-2) and Andy Townend (16-3) meet for the vacant British title.
