With the LPGA Tour taking the week off ahead of the Evian Championship, the men had the spotlight to themselves for the BMW Championship and KLM Open this past week. Dustin Johnson delivered another impressive performance at Crooked Stick that included a course record 63 in the second round, picking up his second consecutive top-10 finish and third win of the season. Meanwhile, the hometown favorite Joost Luiten delivered a memorable performance on Sunday to clinch his second-career KLM Open title in impressive fashion. Here is a recap of what happened in golf fantasy this past weekend.
BMW Championship
PGA Tour
We start our golf fantasy recap Johnson, who earned his third win of the season. The American moved to the top of the FedEx Cup standings with a victory at the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick on Sunday. Johnson survived an early stumble in which he bogeyed on two of the first three holes on Sunday to fall in to a tie for the lead with Paul Casey, but he rallied with five birdies on the next nine holes to open his lead and he finished three strokes clear of Casey for the victory. The world No. 2 moves in to top spot in the FedEx Cup standings with the win. Meanwhile, Casey finished second at20-under after matching Johnson’s 67 in the final round, with Roberto Casto placing third at 17-under after he also posted a 67 on Sunday. The defending champion and world No. 1 Jason Day was forced to withdraw mid-round because of a back injury, while Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson all dropped out of the top-30 and will miss the final event of the PGA Tour season this week. Fowler’s inability to remain in the top-30 left him needing a captain’s pick on Monday to get in to the Ryder’s Cup.
Taking a look at Jordan Spieth in particular, it has been a somewhat disappointing year for him in golf fantasy. He has just the two wins and his ninth last week was decent, but it was just best finish in six starts. Remember that he was one of the favorites to win the FedEx Cup and he’s often a golf fantasy favorite each week on the list, but he’s not delivering to that level and that’s disappointing.
Next up on the PGA Tour schedule is the TOUR Championship from the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia beginning on September 22nd and preceding the Ryder Cup finale the following week.

European Tour
We start our golf fantasy recap with Joost Luiten. It was the local favorite Luiten that delivered an impressive performance for the win at the KLM Open over the weekend. The Bleiswijk-native closed with a 63 on Sunday to claim his second KLM Open title on his home turf at The Dutch in Spijk. Luiten had entered the final round three strokes back of the lead but he equaled a course record with a 63 after firing 10 birdies and two bogeys in the final round to get to 19-under for the tournament, which was enough for a three-stroke victory over Bernd Wiesberger. Australian Scott Hend actually had the lead through the first eight holes of the final around before falling apart as he finished with a 73 in the final round to finish tied for fourth with Alejandro Canizares, David Horsey and Ben Evans at 12-under. Meanwhile, South Korea’s Byeong-Hun An finished third at 13-under.
Taking a look at the breakdown of the Top 10, there was one player from Holland (who won the event), one from Austria, one from Korea, one from Spain, one from Australia, one from France and four from England.
Next up for the Euopean Tour is the Italian Open, which begins on Thursday at the Golf Club Milano in Monza, Italy.
