After SmackDown put on another good Pay-Per-View last night, tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw should be dead set on making Hell in a Cell better than their competition. With three weeks to go, tonight should help set up the card for the last brand-specific Pay-Per-View before Survivor Series.
Opening Segment
To start off this episode of Monday Night Raw is the woman who ended last week: the new Raw Women’s Champion, Sasha Banks. Banks defeated Charlotte for the Women’s Championship in an incredible match last week that was the first women’s main event since 2004. WWE confirmed last night at the No Mercy PPV that Charlotte will be getting her rematch at Hell in a Cell.
After celebrating her championship victory, Sasha Banks proposes that her rematch with Charlotte takes place inside Hell in a Cell. Charlotte comes to the ring to accept the challenge, and throughout the promo, Rusev tries to interrupt and complain about his own issues. Before things get too chaotic, Roman Reigns breaks things up between Rusev and the women and Rusev retreats to the back.
Cesaro (w/Sheamus) vs. Kofi Kingston (w/Xavier Woods & Big E)
Cesaro and Sheamus managed to tie in a Best of Seven Series, so they both earned a championship opportunity. Much to their disdain, Mick Foley paired them up and made that a Raw Tag Team Championship opportunity. Before Cesaro and Sheamus take on The New Day for the titles at Hell in a Cell, the Swiss Superman faces one member of the 414 day-long reigning champions. Sheamus is at ringside, but is on Facebook Live instead of being a useful manager.
Sheamus takes Francesca II for his Facebook Live stream, and a conflict with the New Day distracts Cesaro. Kingston takes advantage to roll up Cesaro and pick up the win. After a nasty landing before the roll-up, there could be some concern that Kofi Kingston is injured. Winner: Kofi Kingston
Bayley vs. Cami Fields
Before the Women’s Championship match last week, Bayley and Dana Brooke got into an altercation, and Bayley would prevent Brooke from being at ringside. One week after potentially helping Charlotte lose the title, Bayley faces local wrestler Cami Fields near her hometown of San Jose.
Fields holds her own, but Bayley hits the Bayley-to-Belly for the victory. Winner: Bayley
While Bayley is celebrating on the stage, Dana Brooke attacks her from behind in an act of revenge from last week.
Tony Nese & Drew Gulak vs. Lince Dorado & Sin Cara
Along with participants of the Cruiserweight Classic, Sin Cara has joined the Raw Cruiserweight Division. Sin Cara has gotten the short end of the stick for most of his career (excluding the NXT Tag Team Championship run), and being part of this division will help give him more exposure and great matches.
After Sin Cara hits Tony Nese with a suicide dive, Lince Dorado hits a Shooting Star Press on Drew Gulak to make the lucha libre team victorious. Winners: Lince Dorado & Sin Cara
In-ring Segment
After Sasha Banks proposed the Hell in a Cell Women’s Championship match earlier tonight, Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon are here to address it. Mick Foley confirms that it will be inside the cell, as well as the Universal Championship match between Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins.
After Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho complain about the Universal Championship Hell in a Cell match, Stephanie McMahon makes a proposal. If Chris Jericho can defeat Seth Rollins tonight, he will be put in the Hell in a Cell match with him and Owens.
Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel vs. Enzo Amore & Big Cass
Before Enzo and Cass can take on the reunited Social Outcasts, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson attack the Realest Guys in the Room from behind and lay them both out with Magic Killers.
After the beatdown, Curtis Axel is annoyed that he never got a tag team match, so he demands that Mick Foley sends out two more people for their opponents.
Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel vs. Sami Zayn & Neville
Well, Axel and Dallas got a match like they wanted.
After Axel showboats a little too much, Zayn and Neville hit a Helluva Kick/Red Arrow combination to pin Axel and get the win. Winners: Sami Zayn & Neville
R-Truth (w/Goldust) vs. Titus O’Neil
This match came to be because apparently R-Truth stole a Payday candy bar sponsorship deal from Titus O’Neil and his new “Titus brand.” O’Neil failed to start his brand against Sami Zayn, and looks for a different result tonight.
But he doesn’t get a different result. O’Neil gets distracted by Goldust getting the crowd to chant, and R-Truth rolls him up to steal the pin. Winner: R-Truth
Braun Strowman vs. The Splash Brothers
Last week, Braun Strowman asked for stiffer competition, and he gets a handicap match tonight a la Ryback.
After decimating both of the Splash Brothers, Strowman pins both of them at the same time for another dominant victory. Winner: Braun Strowman
After the match, Strowman demands real competition for next week, or else it will be on Foley’s hands.
Sasha Banks & Roman Reigns vs. Charlotte & Rusev (w/Lana)
After the tense opening to the show, Mick Foley made a mixed tag team match where the champions (Reigns and Banks) take on the challengers. While this is a tag match, we’ll get a sneak peak of the Hell in a Cell championship matches.
Sasha Banks locks in the Bank Statement, and Reigns spears Rusev so the submission could not be broken up. Charlotte taps to the Women’s Champion for the second time in a week. Winners: Sasha Banks & Roman Reigns
In-ring Segment
Last week on SportsCenter, Goldberg said that if he returned to the ring, he would want to have a rematch against Brock Lesnar. To address this, Paul Heyman has come to Monday Night Raw. Heyman and Lesnar are furious that Goldberg is up 1-0 against Lesnar, so Heyman challenges Goldberg on Lesnar’s behalf to a match: anytime, any place.
TJ Perkins vs. Ariya Daivari
In preparation for his second Cruiserweight Championship title defense against Brian Kendrick, TJ Perkins takes on the debuting Ariya Daivari. Daivari is the younger brother of the former WWE Superstar known just as “Daivari,” and looks to make a name for himself.
Daivari seems to hurt his knee after missing a splash, and the Cruiserweight Champion takes advantage to lock in the kneebar and force Daivari to submit. Winner (via submission): TJ Perkins
Chris Jericho (w/Kevin Owens) vs. Seth Rollins
Chris Jericho helped Kevin Owens retain the Universal Championship at Clash of Champions, and Seth looks to get some revenge on Y2J. Along with the satisfaction of defeating Seth Rollins, if Jericho wins, he will be put in the Universal Championship Hell in a Cell match in three weeks.
Jericho attempts the Walls of Jericho, but Rollins counters it into a roll-up to keep the Hell in a Cell match one-on-one. Winner: Seth Rollins
