NASCAR’s Hollywood Casino 400 Preview

The Hollywood Casino 400

The Hollywood Casino 400 from Kansas Speedway is set to go off on Sunday, October 16th at 2:00 p.m. ET. The second race in the Sprint Cup Chase’s Round of 8 will be televised on the NBC Network. Veteran speedster Matt Kenseth will start out in front because of his qualifying efforts on Friday.

Roger Penske’s Joey Logano guided his #22 Pennzoil Ford to Victory Lane at this venue last fall. Logano has been hot and cold recently, but his past history at Kansas bodes well for the young driver.

Joey Logano led three laps here earlier in the year before finishing in 38th place after an accident. Furthermore, the feisty competitor has two of the last four victories at Kansas Speedway and boasts five top five’s in the last six contests here. Las Vegas has Logano as at 15/1 to win his third race in seven starts at Kansas Speedway.

Martin Truex Jr. led 172 laps and was in complete control of the spring race at Kansas before losing the race with wheel trouble. The momentous driver has brought that speed back to the track in the fall.

The Furniture Row Racing driver qualified in the fourth spot and also has posted top ten practice speeds throughout the weekend. Odds-makers have Martin Truex Jr. (9/2), as the favorite to take the checkered flag in the Hollywood Casino 400.

Historically, Kansas Speedway has not been a good track for Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch. Having said that, the defending Sprint Cup champion finally won here in the spring. He also enters this contest having three consecutive top five finishes around the 1.5 mile oval.

Kyle Busch qualified his #18 M&M’s Toyota in the second position, right next to teammate Matt Kenseth. The irritable driver also posted the fourth fastest time in the first practice round on Friday. Line-setters have him at 6/1 to drive his way into the Winner’s Circle in the Hollywood Casino 400.

Matt Kenseth took control of the qualifying round on Friday and placed his #20 Dollar General Toyota in the pole position for the start of the Hollywood Casino 400. The Joe Gibbs Racing speedster has two second place finishes and also three top five’s in the last three contests here.

As a result, Matt Kenseth starts this race with the highest average finish of all remaining Sprint Cup drivers (3.0). The veteran racer also posted the second fastest speed in the first practice round and Las Vegas has him notched in as a tasty 10/1 to drive his way to victory in the Hollywood Casino 400.

After Kevin Harvick blew up his engine at Charlotte Motor Speedway, it’s a must win for the Stewart/Hass Racing stand-out. The odds are certainly in the talented driver’s favor for the Hollywood Casino 400.

Kevin Harvick has a victory and three second place finishes since 2014. Harvick has answered the call and posted the fastest time in Friday’s practice session. The 2014 Sprint Cup champion will start the race out of the 11th spot from his qualifying efforts on Friday. Odds-gurus have the determined racer at 5/1 to bring home the glory in the Hollywood Casino 400.

So far, Carl Edwards has just one top 10 finish and no top five’s in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship. It’s kind of surprising that he hasn’t reeled in better results since the Chase began.

Things could change in a hurry for the #19 Xfinity Toyota team on Sunday. Edwards posted the ninth fastest time in the first round of practice on Friday and will also be starting right behind his teammate and pole-sitter Matt Kenseth on Sunday. Las Vegas has Edwards at 10/1 to cruise his hot-rod into Victory Lane on Sunday.
