Manchester City’s win drought came to a sudden halt on the weekend with the type of lopsided win that we had come to expect from the top club in the Premier League standings. It should be no surprise that City is well represented on the following list, especially when you consider the number of clean sheet victories that were recorded in low scoring games. Here is a look at the top individual EPL fantasy performances from the Premier League by position this past weekend.
GK: Heurelho Gomes, Watford
Watford extended its undefeated streak to four with its fourth win of the season on Saturday thanks in big part to a strong defensive effort and Gomes shutting the door. Gomes faced just two shots but he turned away both of them to preserve a 1-0 win over Hull City. Watford is off to a strong start with 15 points to sit tied with Manchester United for seventh in the Premier League standings and Gomes was one of four goalkeepers to record clean sheet victories over the weekend.
Honorable Mention: Joel Robles, Everton; Victor Valdes, Middlesbrough; Thibaut Courois, Chelsea
D: Sebastian Prodl, Watford
Prodl played a big role in his club’s strong defensive performance on Saturday with three blocks and he even managed to get a shot on target in the win. Prodl also benefited from the clean sheet bonus that he received for helping to blank Hull City on a relatively quiet weekend for Premier League defenders from an EPL fantasy perspective. Watford is now sitting in seventh place in the EPL standings with 15 points. They have scored 14 goals and allowed 13 on the season.
Honorable Mention: Cesar Azpilicueta, Chelsea; Daley Blind, Manchester United; Miguel Britos, Watford
M: Ilkay Gundogan, Manchester City
It was Gundogan’s turn to lead the way in the middle for Manchester City in their lopsided 4-0 win over West Brom over the weekend. Gundogan led the way with two goals and an assist and even received a bonus for the fact that Manchester City kept the clean sheet. It was an outstanding performance for Gundogan from start to finish and it should be no surprise that he is the top EPL fantasy midfielder from the Premier League this past weekend. City is atop the EPL standings at thsi point as their 23 points are tied with Arsenal and Liverpool for the most in the league. However, their +15 goal differential is the best, which is why they’re holding the top spot.
M: James McArthur, Crystal Palace
McArthur snapped a three-game goal drought with a pair of markers in Crystal Palace’s 4-2 loss to Liverpool. The fact that McArthur couldn’t help his club gain at least a point in the standings had to be disappointing but it was an excellent individual performance by the veteran midfielder and he is definitely worthy of the second spot on this list. Cyrstal Palace is now in 12th place in the EPL standings with 11 points through 10 games this year.
Honorable Mention: Eden Hazard, Chelsea; Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal; Ross Barkley, Everton
F: Sergio Aguero, Manchester City
Aguero joins his teammate Gundogan on this list after he also contributed two goals and an assist in the 4-0 win over West Brom. Aguero is obviously one of the most lethal strikers in the Premier League and he is that much more dangerous with capable midfielders behind him that are helping to create chances. City was overdue for a big win after earning just two of a possible nine points in their previous three games and it was Aguero that delivered up front with the top EPL fantasy score among Premier League strikers.
F: Olivier Giroud, Arsenal
Giroud was right behind Aguero when it comes to the top EPL fantasy scores among Premier League strikers as he scored two goals in just 22 minutes played in a 4-1 win over Sunderland. Giroud made a tremendous impact in a very short period of time and the fact that he delivered the second-best EPL fantasy score among Premier League forwards is that much more impressive when you consider the limited minutes that he played.
Honorable Mention: Romelu Lukaku, Everton; Vincent Janssen, Tottenham; Ahmed Musa, Leicester City
