A dominant 5-0 win over Everton landed Chelsea in the spotlight both in the Premier League and in fantasy competitions where they had several representatives among the top point producers this past weekend. In fact, the Blues had the top point producers at three of the four positions on the board including two midfielders that produced the top fantasy scores overall. Here is a look at the top EPL fantasy performers by position from the Premier League this past weekend.
GK: Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea
Depending on the scoring in your league, Courtois likely would have been the top fantasy goalkeeper on the board despite not making a single save in Chelsea’s 5-0 win over Everton. The veteran goalkeeper earned points based on the win and the lone clean sheet recorded over the weekend in order to edge out Hull City’s David Marshall and Liverpool’s Loris Karius for top honors. On the season, Chelsea is in second place in the standings table. They have 25 points through 11. They have been an excellent defensive team to this point as they’ve allowed just nine goals in 11 games, which is the second-best number in the EPL.
Honorable Mention: David Marshall, Hull City; Loris Karius, Liverpool
D: Marcos Alonso, Chelsea
Alonso got in on the action for Chelsea with a goal in his 90 minutes played. Alonso also received a clean sheet bonus in order to help edge out Hull City’s Craig Dawson and George Friend of Middlesbrough for top fantasy honors at his position.
Honorable Mention: Michael Dawson, Hull City; George Friend, Middlesbrough
M: Eden Hazard, Chelsea
Chelsea’s EPL fantasy dominance continued at the midfield positions with Hazard delivering the top EPL fantasy score on the board regardless of position this past weekend. Hazard scored two goals including the game-winning marker and added an assist in the lopsided victory. He also earned a clean sheet bonus to help create that much more separation between he and the competition this past weekend.
M: Pedro, Chelsea
Pedro also finished with three points but he had one goal and two assists in the 5-0 win over Everton. Pedro had no problem doing some serious damage in the first 70 minutes of action and it was enough to edge out Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and Robert Snodgrass of Hull City for the second-best EPL fantasy score among Premier League midfielders this past weekend. Chelsea’s +17 goal differential is the best in the EPL, which is a strong indicator of how good they’ve been. Their strong play should continue when they return to action against Middlesbrough.
Honorable Mention: Roberto Firmino, Liverpool; Robert Snodgrass, Hull City; Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Burnley
F: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Manchester United
Ibrahimovic resurfaced as the top fantasy forward on a relatively quiet weekend at the position. The star striker finished with two goals including the game-winning marker in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Swansea City to produce the top fantasy score at the forward spot. Manchester United has stumbled of late and now sits in sixth place in the EPL standings. They have 18 points through 11 games, but are now eight points out of first place.
F: Jermain Defoe, Sunderland
Defoe also registered a multi-point performance up front with a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over Bournemouth. Defoe remains a strong value pick in daily fantasy leagues when Sunderland has a favorable matchup and he flashed his upside again in Saturday’s win to edge out Burnley’s Sam Vokes and Wayne Rooney of Manchester United for the second-best fantasy score of the weekend at the forward position. It’s not often that you see Sunderland on our EPL fantasy list as they’re the worst team in the Premier League so far. They have registered just five points through 11 games and are six points inside the relegation zone. Their biggest issue has been goal scoring as they’ve managed just nine goals on the season. That is by far the fewest in the EPL as every other team has hit at least double digits. Their -12 goal differential is worse than anyone except for Hull City.
Honorable Mention: Sam Vokes, Burnley; Wayne Rooney, Manchester United; Victory Anichebe, Sunderland
