Danny Garcia vs Samuel Vargas Boxing Odds For Saturday

Danny Garcia vs Samuel Vargas

Danny Garcia vs Samuel Vargas – This coming Saturday night on SpikeTV, WBC world welterweight champion Danny Garcia (32-0) fights a ten round non-title match against Colombia’s Samuel Vargas (25-2-1).

The match-up is being considered a warm-up fight for Garcia before a planned showdown in March of next year against WBA world champion Keith Thurman (27-0). the fight with Thurman was part of Showtime Boxing’s recent schedule announcement that saw a series of high-level match-ups confirmed by the cable network. The Garcia versus Thurman bout is one of the most intriguing match-ups on the slate, and to call it highly anticipated would be an understatement.

So why do this fight for Garcia with the unheralded Vargas? The line on the fight so heavily favors Garcia that it really is unbettable.

Don’t get me wrong betting on Vargas, even a modest sum, will likely result in losing your money. Vargas is facing a tall order against the hyper-skilled Garcia but he is no slouch. Garcia relocated from his native Colombia to launch his professional career back in 2010 and since then he has fought predominantly in Canada. He shared a date with Garcia in the past, as Vargas faced off against undefeated prospect Errol Spence Jr in April of 2015 on the undercard of Garcia’s main event fight against Lamont Peterson. In that fight, Spence Jr took Vargas out in four. Vargas’ other loss came on the road in Mexico back in December of 2013.

Garcia must look at Spence as a future opponent if he wishes to dominate the weight class, so Garcia has got reason to try and finish this fight with some flair and panache. For Garcia, there is the risk that a maudlin performance will net him some criticism for struggling with a fighter like Vargas.

Does Vargas have the ability to do more than just make Garcia look bad? He has 13 knockouts across 25 wins in his career. He fights frequently, logging 5 fights in 2014 and 4 in 2015 to go with two already in 2016. He has gone the distance his past two fights, though he scored 5 straight stoppages in wins prior to that.

Still the common thinking is that Vargas is going to struggle to hit Garcia for as long as it lasts. One of these days however, a guy like Vargas is going to get to a guy like Garcia in these crush fights, and the folks on the ‘dog are going to be very happy. There has been a trend in boxing to have showcase fights prior to a superfight, such as was recently done by HBO with Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward. In that case, both fighters scored victories and emerged unscathed. Will Garcia?
