Lucha Underground Recap: Kobra Moon Kidnaps Drago

Last week on Lucha Underground, Dario Cueto announced his “Battle of the Bulls” tournament. The first round includes four fatal four way matches, with the winners going into the final elimination match to determine the #1 Contender for the Lucha Underground Championship. Tonight, we find out who will join Cage and The Mack next week.

Killshot vs. Dante Fox vs. Mariposa vs. Jeremiah Crane – Battle of the Bulls Qualifying Match
This is the first of two Battle of the Bulls Qualifying Matches of the night. Sexy Star has a rematch for the Lucha Underground Championship next week against Johnny Mundo in a steel cage match, so whoever wins next week could change the opponent for the winner of the Battle of the Bulls tournament.

Killshot is probably the most successful luchador in this match, defeating Marty “The Moth” Martinez in a brutal (to say the least) Weapons of Mass Destruction match. However, Mariposa competed in the “No Mas” match against Sexy Star last season, which took their battle all over the Temple. On top of that, Dante Fox has had Killshot’s number in the past several weeks. The last competitor in the match, Jeremiah Crane (formerly known as Sami Callihan and Solomon Crowe), is fairly new to the Temple so we don’t know what to expect from him.

Jeremiah Crane manages to kick out of a springboard C4 from Dante Fox, and he ends up hitting Fox with a rough double underhook piledriver to advance to the finals. Winner: Jeremiah Crane

Killshot sees Fox laid out in the ring after losing the match, and he assaults Fox just a little further to send a message.

Kobra Moon vs. Drago
Several weeks ago during Aztec Warfare, Drago eliminated Kobra Moon. In their interactions since, Kobra Moon has seemed to have a vendetta against Drago. Moon has been stalking Drago in his matches recently, and it seems like a tribal war is starting between the two. Moon told Drago to bow down to the Queen at the beginning of the match (she asked for this match, by the way), which could give some insight to her intentions.

Drago seems to have the upper hand during most of the match, but before Drago could finish the job, a pretty large luchador wearing a lizard mask attacks Drago from behind. Drago’s former Trios partners, Aerostar and Fenix, come out to help, but an even bigger, almost 7-foot tall man in another lizard mask wipes both of them out, and ends his assault with a tombstone piledriver to Drago. Kobra Moon and her two henchmen then carry Drago to the back.

Backstage Segment
Mariposa and Sexy Star cross paths, and the two have an intense staredown. To recap, Mariposa tortured Sexy Star so badly that it led to a “No Mas” match between the two. It was the most brutal match the Lucha Underground has put on in a while, and Sexy Star managed to force her torturer and captor to verbally submit. Sexy Star found a spider in her locker earlier in the evening, and after the two have a brief fight, she interrogates Mariposa. Mariposa denies the accusation, saying that she would instead have put a butterfly there.

Jack Evans vs. PJ Black vs. Son of Havoc vs. Angelico – Battle of the Bulls Qualifying Match
At first glance, it seems like the Worldwide Underground has the clear advantage in this match. PJ Black and Jack Evans have been showing great teamwork over the past few months, and Johnny Mundo threatened to kick them out of the Worldwide Underground if they don’t win their match tonight, so they have even more motivation than usual. However, Son of Havoc and Angelico, alongside Ivelisse, formed the first-ever Lucha Underground Trios Champions, so they could spark their old friendship.

After Son of Havoc and Angelico are thrown out of the ring, PJ Black lies down in the ring so that Jack Evans can get the easy pinfall. When Evans takes him up on the offer, Black rolls him up, suckering Evans in for the pin. Black will move on to face The Mack, Cage, and Jeremiah Crane next week in an elimination fatal four way match to determine the #1 Contender for Johnny Mundo’s (or Sexy Star’s) Lucha Underground Championship. Winner: PJ Black
