He has won 6 of his 19 starts and he is versatile to boot. Broberg is a high-percentage trainer and he can put this runner in a number of spots. He has won at a mile but has the speed to win sprinting too. If he returns in a sprint and is re-united with Manuel Franco, get down.
Mo’ Money is a crime comedy film written by hilarious Damon Wayans but the movie has nothing on the runner Mo for the Money.
This colt by Uncle Mo started his career at Belmont Park in 2015 and he won at first asking. His connections at that time thought enough of him to try the King’s Swan Stakes in only his second start and his hand was forced when he drew the rail. He made the lead but was extended early and had to settle for third money. Formerly trained by Steve Asmussen, that conditioner needed a win for this runner and he got one on February 11 at Oaklawn Park. The word was out on Mo for the Money as five claims were put in for the racer. When numerous claims are in the mix the racing office has a draw to see who gets the horse and Chris Hartman won the draw and had to dole out $25,000 for the runner.
Mo for the Money is purely a sprinter. He has been versatile enough to make the lead and take his rivals all the way to the wire and he has also been able to overcome trouble. He broke poorly in his Oaklawn Park debut in 2016 but settled and came from second to last to win going away.
The truth of the matter about horseracing is that it is a ‘meat and potatoes’ sport. Sure, the stakes horses get all the publicity but Oaklawn Park claimers stir the drink at the meeting.
Memphisinmay raced in stakes early in his career but he seems to be on the down end of his cycle. He was put in a sprint on February 12 in a $7,500 claimer but that is not his game. Four barns put in claims for Memphisinmay and Genero Garcia won the horse in a shake. This runner now has a pair of 2017 races to build on and if he returns routing for a $10,000 offering price, he will be a live ticket.
Dazzling Okie has been around the block and back and this Oaklawn Park claimer has been the beaten favorite in his last two races. He last started February 11 for a $7,500 claiming price and he pressed the issue but faded when the real racing began. He was claimed by Nevada Litfin and may need a slightly softer assignment. He was only three quarters of a length away from being stakes placed last year but probably fits best vs. $5,000 claiming rivals going a mile or longer.
There are other Oaklawn Park claimers that must be respected. The formerly mentioned Broberg took Port Aggregate on February 11 from the Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg. This runner will be a handful if he returns in a route for $20,000 claimers.
