Looking to recoup some of the money they tossed into the fireplace last season, the Miami Dolphins have cut defensive end Mario Williams. Williams was one of the biggest busts of the 2016 free agent period, with the defensive end collecting $8.5 million last season for all of 1.5 sacks and 13 tackles.
Along with Williams, the Dolphins set defensive tackle Earl Mitchell free after a similar season stat-wise, but without nearly the disappointment of Williams’ fall to Earth. Both cuts will save the Dolphins about $12.5 million in cap space.

Offensive tackle Brandon Alberts, a Pro Bowler in 2015, was set to be released as well, but the Dolphins got enough callas about a possible trade that they decided to hold on to the ninth-year OT until they can move him in a deal on March 9.
Former Oregon corner Ifo Ekpre-Olomu was also cut after spending two years trying to get healthy. Ekpre-Olomu has had two major surgeries on his knee, enough to collect his $3 million in insurance money he got for staying in school. It’s shame because Ekpre-Olomu, before his injury, was one of the best corners in college football and looked like a sure-fire NFL star. It’s why two teams have paid him to sit and rehab for two seasons hoping for a come back. It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.
Alberts’ release opens up a starting left tackle spot for last season’s first round pick Laremy Tunsil. Tunsil played left guard for the Dolphins all last season.
Darelle Revis facing assault charges
A trip to Revis Island for two men in Pittsburgh came complete with a complementary knuckle sandwich. Darrelle Revis, cornerback for the New York Jets, is under investigation after getting into a fight with two men on the street early Sunday Morning. An altercation which the men both claimed Revis knocked them out.
Jets were moving on from Darrelle Revis anyway. Now the question becomes whether this incident could void his $6 million guarantee.

So that’s pretty badass.
Here’s the story. Apparently Revis was walking down the street minding his own business when the two men, aged 21 and 22, approached him and asked if he was Derrelle Revis. Revis made the mistake of answering in the affirmative, at which time one of the young morons began filming him with his cellphone and refused to stop. Revis, as one would when tired of being filmed without one’s permission, grabbed the phone and tossed it into the street.
Some other man entered the verbal sparring match on Revis’ side and the next thing the two young ruffians knew, they were knocked the eff out. Neither toolbag came to until police were on the scene.
Once awakened, the two doofuses immediately wanted to press chargaes against Revis and the Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety went ahead and announced the “pending chargers” and here’s what they are if you can believe it; robbery, terroristic threats, conspiracy and aggravated assault.
Yeah. That’s a lot of serious sounding words. And a couple of 20-year-old dirtbags are seeing dollar signs in all of them.
Jaguars and Beachum set for break up
The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially declined the four-year option on starting left tackle Kelvin Beacham’s contract, making him a free agent as of March 9.
Beachum started 15 games in 2016, though he had consistent issues with his surgically repaired knee swelling up on him all year. Beachum spent his first four seasons in Pittsburgh and started for two and a half seasons before tearing his ACL in 2015. Last offseason the Jags signed Beachum to a one-year deal with the four-year option, and while they decided not to pick it up, it doesn’t necessarily mean his days in Jacksonville are over.

The Jags can’t have enough good offensive linemen, frankly, and this is likely just an attempt and getting a more salary cap friendly deal. Beachum will be entering his sixth season and was drafted in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Steelers out of SMU.
Still, it’s rolling the dice and with so many teams looking to bolster their offensive linemen in the draft and free agency, Beachum could (and should) have plenty of opportunities to try on some different laundry come September.
