Chonburi, Thailand and the Pattaya Old Course at the Siam Country Club will be the home of this week’s Honda LPGA Thailand. The LPGA Tour begins its two-event Asian Swing with the 11th edition of the Honda LPGA Thailand with Lexi Thompson back to defend her title after running away with a victory here in 2016. Thompson will be among the sports betting favorites to win this event for the second year in a row but she will have some tough competition led by Shanshan Feng, Ariya Jutanugarn and Ha Na Jang this week.
Event Details
Event: Honda LPGA Thailand
Category: PGA
Date: February 23-26
Location: Siam Country Club, Chonburi, Thailand
Thompson absolutely dominated at this tournament a year ago when she recorded a pair of eight-under 64 rounds to take a four-stroke lead in to the final round and never gave it up. Thompson wound up winning by six strokes to secure her seventh career victory on the LPGA Tour and despite some tough competition she should definitely be very confident in her abilities heading in to this week.
Past Five Winners
2016: Lexi Thompson -20
2015: Amy Yang -15
2014: Anna Nordqvist -15
2013: Inbee Park -12
2012: Yani Tseng -19
What To Know About The Course
There have been nine different winners in the last 10 years at this tournament and many of them have come out on top in absolute birdie fests including Thompson last year. Driving Accuracy will be important but the key stats to keep in mind remain Greens In Regulation as well as Putting. Whoever is the most consistent with their irons and putter this week will undoubtedly come out on top at the Honda LPGA Thailand.
The Field
Thompson is listed at +1400 odds to win this event outright for the second year in a row but she is not the sports betting favorite by any means. That title belongs to Feng, who is listed at +700 odds to clinch her first win at the Honda LPGA Thailand. Meanwhile, Jutanugarn is listed at +800 odds while Jang is listed at +1200 odds – both of those golfers are listed ahead of Thompson according to the sportsbooks.
A Good Matchup To Bet: Ariya Jutanugarn over Shanshan Feng
While Feng is playing at a high level right now there is definitely some value betting on Jutanugarn to break through with her best performance so far this season this week and record a better score than her Asian rival. Jutanugarn is looking to reestablish herself as the most dominant golfer on the LPGA Tour and she will have an excellent chance to do exactly that during the Asian swing beginning at this week’s Honda LPGA Thailand.
Top-Five Pick: Lexi Thompson
The fact that we are actually getting some value betting on Thompson to finish in the top-five feels like a steal as she should probably be the betting favorite to win outright after dominating here a year ago. Consistency will be the key once again and while she might not successfully defend her title with another win we have to think she will finish in the top-five at the Honda LPGA Thailand at the very least.
