The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stops in Martinsville, Virginia for the STP 500 this week. While Kyle Busch and Joey Logano can’t stand each other on the track, they don’t have to eat dinner together to be paired on our DraftKings roster. Both Busch and Logano should be in line for strong performances this week as a pair of legitimate contenders for the win.
Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings NASCAR daily fantasy leagues.
Kyle Busch, $10,300
Busch has had some bad luck early on this season but there is reason to believe his luck will change this week. Busch secured his 35th career victory in this race a year ago. He has finished no lower than fifth in each of his last three appearances at Martinsville. After posting back-to-back top-10 finishes in his last two starts, this could be the race when Busch finally breaks through with a win.
Busch enters the week in 10th place in the standings. He is 107 back of the top spot. He has led for 139 laps, though, which is the fourth most of any driver this season. We will see if he can finally get that elusive win.
Joey Logano, $10,100
Logano has been a model of consistency early on this season and that should continue at Martinsville. Logano has finished sixth or better in four of his first five races. He is still looking for his first win of the season. While that might not happen this week, it won’t surprise anybody if he places in the top-five once again.
Logano enters the week in fifth place in the standings. He currently has 174 points, which puts him 69 points back of the leader, who is Kyle Larson. He has managed to lead for 104 last so far this season.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., $8,600
Dale Jr. finally showed some signs of life last week and we are hoping he can build off of that at the STP 500. Earnhardt is still looking for his first top-10 finish of the season and this week might be the perfect opportunity. Earnhardt won this race in 2014 and he finished fourth here in 2015. At under $9K, Dale Jr. might be the perfect value pick for this week’s race.
Jamie McMurray, $8,100
McMurray has finished 10th or better in three of his last four races overall. He has also had success at Martinsville, where he has registered two top-five finishes and 15 top-10 finishes in his career. Available at just over $8K, McMurray will not disappoint as a strong veteran option that could be a lock to finish in the top-10.
Aric Almirola, $7,100
Almirola has been one of the best DraftKings value picks on the board so far this season. He has finished inside the top-20 in each of his last three races and yet he is still available at just over $7K. With just under $13K left over to spend on our final two spots, Almirola is the perfect sleeper value pick in this spot.
Heading into the week, Almirola is in 18th place in the standings. However, he has just one top five result on the year. We’d love to have another one in this spot considering the price we’re getting him at.
Michael McDowell, $5,600
McDowell is our deep dark horse pick this week. While he definitely won’t contend for the win, he could be in line for a top-25 finish. McDowell placed 24th in the spring race here and 18th in the fall, so there is reason to believe he could produce another strong result this week. McDowell has shown improvement on short tracks over the last two years. While he isn’t an elite pick by any means, his price tag combined with his potential for a top-25 finish could make him a sneaky good sleeper pick for this week’s DraftKings competitions.
