After one of the most incredible final rounds at a major championship ever, the focus will slowly shift to the next event on the PGA Tour schedule. The memory of Jordan Spieth’s unbelievable performance down the stretch at the Open Championship is still fresh in our minds as the PGA Tour returns to North America for the RBC Canadian Open this week. The field for this week’s tournament at the Glen Abbey Golf Club is nowhere near as deep as last week’s field but there will still be some big names in attendance. We decided to lock in the biggest name in this week’s tournament as our top pick for this week’s DraftKings competitions and then built a solid lineup around him including a pair of hometown favorites. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA Fantasy competitions.
Dustin Johnson, $12,200
D.J. wasn’t spectacular on Sunday at The Open but he is clearly still the class of this week’s field for the RBC Canadian Open. Johnson’s results have tailed off a bit over the past couple of months but the reality is that there was no way he could have continued his torrid pace to start the season forever. Johnson is the clear favorite in a relatively mediocre field so it makes sense to lock him in as the top pick in our DraftKings fantasy competitions lineups.
Ian Poulter, $8,700
Poulter is on quite a roll heading in to the RBC Canadian Open after posting back-to-back top-15 finishes in his last two starts. Poulter ranks sixth on the tour in Strokes Gained: Approach-the-Green and third in Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green. His consistency has been very impressive of late and there is no reason to expect anything different from him this week. At under $9K, Poulter is the perfect compliment to D.J. at the top of our DraftKings lineup.
Ben Martin, $8,200
Martin wasn’t at Royal Birkdale last week but he did register a T-6th at the Barbasol Championship. Marin sank 21 birdies in total at last week’s tournament compared to just three bogeys and he should still be relatively fresh after the short trip north of the border. Martin hasn’t missed a cut in more than three months and if he performs like he did in last week’s Barbasol Championship he should make for an excellent value option in DraftKings competitions.
Adam Hadwin, $7,400
Our first Canadian entry has shown flashes of excellence this season, including capturing his first PGA Tour at the Valspar Championship. Hadwin also has a runner-up finish at the CareerBuilder Challenge and a sixth-place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on his resume this season. Hadwin has the potential to add to that resume this weekend as one of the home favorites at the RBC Canadian Open. At just $7.4K, he is definitely worth the investment in DraftKings competitions.
David Hearn, $6,900
Our second Canadian entry has heated up over the past couple of months with three top-15 results and made cuts in five of his last six starts overall. Hearn showed flashes of his potential when he registered a T-27th at the Barbasol Championship last week and should be motivated to improve on that result as a fan favorite this week. At just under $7K, Hearn is an excellent value option at the back end of our lineup.
Hearn enters the week in 115 in the FedEx Cup standings. We’re hoping that he plays better than that average at this tournament this week – especially since he’s playing in Canada in front of the home audience. He’ll be a fan favorite and maybe the crowd gives him a boost.
Robert Garrigus, $6,600
Speaking of value, Garrigus might be one of the most underrated fantasy plays on the DraftKings board for the RBC Canadian Open. Garrigus finished 10th at the Barbasol Championship after firing four straight rounds of 67 or better. That consistency makes him an intriguing pick at Glen Abbey this week. At just $6.6K, it makes sense to take a chance on Garrigus as the final value pick in our lineup for this week’s DraftKings fantasy competitions.
