Week 9 of the CFL season featured plenty of drama with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers ending the Edmonton Eskimos perfect run and the Toronto Argonauts bouncing back in a big way at home with Ricky Ray leading them to a lopsided win over the Montreal Alouettes. Now the focus shifts to what’s in store for Week 10 with some intriguing matchups on the slate. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are guaranteed to avoid the loss column for just the second time this season but that’s because they are on another bye. Meanwhile, the Calgary Stampeders could close in on top spot in the East division with a win and an Edmonton loss. Here is your CFL betting breakdown for Week 10 of the regular season.
Thursday August 24th – 7:30 PM ET
Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ Montreal Alouettes
CFL Betting Odds: Winnipeg -1
The Blue Bombers answered a lot of questions last week when they ended the Edmonton Eskimos win streak with a 33-26 victory at home. Winnipeg is a true contender in the West division as one of three teams with six wins heading in to Week 10. Now they must avoid a letdown on the road against a Montreal side they should be able to beat. The Alouettes scored just six points in a blowout loss to the Toronto Argonauts last week. Darian Durant was held to just 93 passing yards before he was replaced by Drew Willy and it’s not going to get any easier for Montreal’s quarterback this week. The Blue Bombers are firing on all cylinders right now. Expect that to continue this week against the Alouettes.
Pick: Winnipeg -1
Friday August 25th – 9:30 PM ET
Saskatchewan Roughriders @ Edmonton Eskimos
CFL Betting Odds: Edmonton -6.5
Edmonton finally suffered a setback in last week’s 33-26 loss to Winnipeg. Now the Eskimos need to figure out how to get back on track in a hurry in order to avoid losing their position atop the West division. The injury bug continues to hurt as Edmonton could be without Vidal Hazelton, Korey Jones, Brandyn Thompson and Jean-Simon Roy this week. However, the Eskimos are still very deep and they will have home advantage against the Roughriders. Saskatchewan is coming off a Week 9 bye and looking to carry over the momentum from their 41-8 win over the Lions back in Week 8. The Riders might not win this game outright on the road but they should be able to keep it close and cover the spread.
Pick: Winnipeg +6.5
Saturday August 26th – 3:30 PM ET
BC Lions @ Ottawa Redblacks
CFL Betting Odds: Ottawa -1
BC suffered another tough loss to Calgary last week and once again Jonathon Jennings just didn’t look like himself. Jennings threw two interceptions and the offense struggled to find its consistency throughout the game. The Lions now head to Ottawa with the hope that they can finally snap their slide and get their season on track but it won’t be easy. The Redblacks are coming off just their second win of the season but they are only three points out of first place in the East division. If Ottawa’s defense can keep Jennings and the Lions defense from getting on track then they could have a good shot at pulling out another win at home. Trevor Harris and the offense can score points in bunches but they will also need to be at their best against a tough BC defense.
Pick: Ottawa -1
Saturday August 26th – 9:00 PM ET
Toronto Argonauts @ Calgary Stampeders
CFL Betting Odds: Calgary -10
The Argonauts moved back in to the win column with a convincing 38-6 win over Montreal in Ricky Ray’s return to the lineup. They will have a much more difficult test this week against the best team in the CFL. Bo Levi Mitchell and company got a little help from the Blue Bombers in their bye week and now they enter Week 10 with designs on taking over top spot in the East division. Calgary embarrassed Toronto with a 41-24 win at BMO Field in Week 7 and it’s unreasonable to expect the Argonauts to put up that much more of a fight on the road this week. Ray might help keep this game close for a while but it’s only a matter of time before the Stampeders pull away and secure another lopsided win at home.
Pick: Calgary -10
