After a week off, the FedEx Cup playoffs are back with the BMW Championship, the third event of the postseason. Dustin Johnson (who is the defending champion here and also won at Cog Hill in 2010) and Justin Thomas have won the first two events as the PGA Tour’s heavy hitters are gearing up for the stretch run. The cut will go from 70 players after this tournament to 30 players for the Tour Championship, so it is all on the line from Thursday to Sunday at Conway Farms, which hosted the event in 2015 (it was won by Zach Johnson) and in 2015 (won by Jason Day). There will be a prize pool of $8.75 million for the BMW Championship.

The Field
It’s a loaded field at the BMW Championship this week as many of the biggest stars on the PGA Tour will be in action. Jordan Spieth is the headliner and the favorite heading into the event at just over 6/1. He took the week off last week but is coming off back-to-back second-place results at the Northern Trust and the Dell Tech Championships. He has finished in the top-two in four of his last six events. Dustin Johnson is the only other golfer at this event inside of 10/1. Justin Thomas is at +1050 while Jon Rahm and Rickie Fowler are at +1150. Hideki Matsuyama is the only other golfer to land inside of 15/1. He has finished in the top five twice in his last four starts, including a win at the WGC-Bridgestone. However, he did get cut at the Northern Trust Open.
What To Know About The Course
Conway Farms opened in 1991 and has hosted a number of tournaments at many levels. It is a par-71 tournament that 7,208 yards long with fast greens and if you miss the fairway badly, you’re going to be in trouble. There could be some fireworks coming down the stretch: #14 and #18 are par-5s, but keep an eye on the driveable #15, which is a par-4 listed at 334 yards.
A Good Matchup To Bet: Patrick Cantlay over Sergio Garcia
Cantlay had to regain his PGA Tour card this year and he hasn’t let the opportunity pass him by, making the FedEx Cup playoffs and now, he is rolling. Cantlay followed up a T-10 at the Northern Trust with a T-13 at the Dell Technologies Championship, but is listed at +110 for this matchup with Garcia, the Masters champion who is favored at -130. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship, skipped the Northern Trust and then finishesd T-35 at the Dell Technologies; in his last four starts, Garcia has the missed cut and three finishes of 35th or worse. Ride with the hot hand.
Top-Five Pick: Henrik Stenson +470
Stenson has five top-finishes of 17th or better in his last six starts, including a win at the Wyndham Championship. He finished T-17 at the Northern Trust, and then took two weeks off to rest up for the final two events. He was T-10 at the BMW Championship in 2015, so he knows the course. Keep an eye on Stenson off the tee, where he hits the fairway 72.66% of the time. There are few things more beautiful in golf than Stenson’s 3-wood, which allows him to leave the driver in the bag.
