Going into 205 Live this week, there is only one match advertised for the show: TJP taking on Rich Swann in a rubber match as part of their “friendly competition.” However, the rest of the show gets some good segments and matches, including the return of Drew Gulak and his Powerpoint presentations, and a bout between The Brian Kendrick and Cedric Alexander after both men lost to Enzo Amore in a Fatal Five-Way Elimination #1 Contender’s Match last week.
TJP vs. Rich Swann
A couple months ago, TJP and Rich Swann competed in what seemed like a typical 205 Live match, but since Swann won, TJP quickly turned it into a competition. TJP wanted to be better than Swann at every opportunity, from “Who could be the jobber the fastest?” to a tag team match to playing WWE 2K17. TJP managed to pick up a victory in a rematch and after recovering from a knee “injury” (that he might have made up), they have their rubber match.
TJP manages to kick out of Swann’s attempt at the Fantastic Voyage (a mix of a fisherman buster and a Michinoku Driver), but Swann is able to get to the top rope fast enough to perfectly land the Phoenix Splash and get the edge over TJP. After the match, TJP refuses to shake Swann’s hand before storming off angrily. Winner: Rich Swann
Drew Gulak’s Powerpoint Presentation Continues
After being so rudely interrupted by Akira Tozawa last week, Drew Gulak is back to continuing his 277-slide long slideshow. This go around, he manages to get through three of his slides regarding his vision for the future of 205 Live that call for no chants, no elaborate ring gear, and no interrupting. Of course, Gulak is then interrupted. What is unexpected, however, is that he is interrupted by Breezango.
Continuing the trend started by Enzo Amore of calling Drew Gulak “Captain Underpants,” Breezango come down to the ring to claim that Gulak is a fashion criminal. Gulak is a very traditional wrestler, who said during Slide #4 that the only gear that should be worn to and inside of a ring should be a “reliable pair of trunks and a reliable pair of boots.” After Gulak walks through them to head to the back, Tyler Breeze adds the charge of “assaulting a fashion officer” before he and Fandango team up to arrest Gulak (with fuzzy handcuffs, of course). Gulak tries to run away, but after being tripped by Fandango, he is escorted to the back.
The Brian Kendrick vs. Cedric Alexander
Last week, both The Brian Kendrick and Cedric Alexander competed in the #1 Contender’s Fatal Five-Way match to determine the next challenger for Neville’s WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Without a doubt, Alexander was the MVP of the match, delivering Lumbar Check after Lumbar Check to Brian Kendrick, Gran Metalik, and Tony Nese, eliminating all three of them from the match. Right after the third elimination, Enzo Amore would roll-up Alexander and win by using the tights for leverage.
This match could be a sign that both Kendrick and Alexander are trying to build momentum to challenge whoever leaves No Mercy as the Cruiserweight Champion, but Kendrick has been feuding with Gentleman Jack Gallagher for weeks now. Kendrick called Gallagher a clown and a caricature of Englishmen, then he challenged Gallagher to a duel only to assault him from behind. Lastly in their feud, Kendrick assaulted Gallagher in a No Disqualification match which ended with the Extraordinary Gentleman being DDTed on the ring bell.
While The Brian Kendrick has the upper hand, Jack Gallagher runs to the ring with his umbrella, William III, in hand. To the surprise of pretty much everybody, Gallagher decides to attack Cedric Alexander with the umbrella instead of Kendrick. While Kendrick sits in the corner in awe, Gallagher brutally attacks Alexander before offering to shake Kendrick’s hand. They shake hands and as the show closes, Gallagher has a very stern and angry look to him. Winner (via disqualification): Cedric Alexander
