College Football Power Rankings For Week 7

College Football

There is a big change in the college football power rankings as Oklahoma tumbles all the way out of the rankings due to their loss to Iowa State. The Sooners were favored by more than 30 points but still flopped. That now opens the door for Oklahoma State to lay claim to the Big 12.

Michigan also dropped out after a loss at home to Michigan State. They will now face some serious questions about their chances to get into the College Football Playoff. Penn State is now the top dog in the Big Ten as Ohio State and Michigan have fallen, while Michigan State now moves into the Top 25 as a result of their win.

The top three teams stays the same, but after that, there is a lot of shifting around and two new teams join the mix as well. Let’s take a closer look at this week’s college football power rankings. As a reminder, the teams are in order of how they are listed in the college football futures to win a National Championship.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide

Last Week: 1

National Championship Odds: +100

The Crimson Tide (6-0, 3-0 SEC) held on for a 27-19 win at Texas A&M as Jalen Hurts was 13-of-22 for 123 yards and a touchdown, and he also ran 14 times for 56 yards and a score. Damien Harris had 14 carries for 124 yards and a touchdown for the Crimson Tide, who ran for 232 yards and then forced three turnovers on defense to remain at the top of the list. They’ll be back home on Saturday for the first of three straight home games, starting off with Arkansas.

2. Clemson Tigers

Last Week: 2

National Championship Odds: +400

The Tigers (6-0, 4-0 ACC) beat Wake Forest 28-14 at home, but it came at a cost as Kelly Bryant went 21-of-29 for 200 yards, a touchdown and a pick, but then he left injured. Clemson ran for 190 yards, which allowed them to hold on to the ball for over 35 minutes, but now the Tigers are sweating the availability of Bryant as they have a short week, playing on Friday on the road at Syracuse.

3. Ohio State Buckeyes

Last Week: 3

National Championship Odds: +800

The Buckeyes (5-1, 3-0 Big Ten) was up 20-7 by the end of the first quarter and didn’t look back in a 62-14 romp over Maryland at home. J.T. Barrett was 20-of-31 for 261 yards and three touchdowns, and he also ran eight times for 59 yards and a score as the Buckeyes ran for 281 yards and five touchdowns.  Ohio State put up 584 yards and allowed just 66 yards in a game that was over early, and now the Buckeyes are back in a good position as they prepare to head to Nebraska on Saturday.

4. Penn State Nittany Lions

Last Week: 5

National Championship Odds: +1000

The Nittany Lions (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) used their defense to roll to a 31-7 win at Northwestern, forcing three turnovers on the day. Trace McSorley was 25-of-34 for 245 yards and a touchdown, and Saquon Barkley had 16 carries for 75 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Nittany Lions, who are now on a bye week as they prepare for a critical three-week stretch that will make or break their season.

5. Georgia Bulldogs

Last Week: 6

National Championship Odds: +1200

The Bulldogs (6-0, 3-0 SEC) ran all over Vanderbilt on the road to the tune of 423 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-14 victory. Jake Fromm was 7-of-11 for 102 yards and two touchdowns, while Sony Michel ran 12 times for 150 yards and a score. Nick Chubb had 16 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs, who racked up 549 yards to 236 yards for Vanderbilt, and they’ll be at home on Saturday to host Missouri.

6. Washington Huskies

Last Week: 7

National Championship Odds: +1500

The Huskies (6-0, 3-0 Pac-12) were up 24-0 at halftime of a 38-7 rout of California at home as Jake Browning was 27-of-40 for 215 yards and two touchdowns. One went to Hunter Bryant, who had nine catches for 121 yards and a touchdown for the Huskies, who had 377 yards of offense and allowed just 93 yards. The Huskies sit in pole position in the Pac-12 as they head out on the road on Saturday to take on Arizona State.

7. USC Trojans

Last Week: 9

National Championship Odds: +1800

The Trojans (5-1, 3-1 Pac-12) bounced back from their tough loss at Washington State by beating Oregon State 38-10. Sam Darnold was 23-of-35 for 316 yards, three touchdowns and a pick, which was one of three turnovers for the Trojans. Fortunately, the Trojans also forced three turnovers and allowed 319 yards while picking up 512 yards. However, the Trojans still have a lot of work to do as they prepare to host Utah on Saturday.

8. Wisconsin Badgers

Last Week: 10

National Championship Odds: +2000

The Badgers (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) got a massive day from Jonathan Taylor in a 38-17 win at Nebraska as he ran 25 times for 249 yards and a pair of scores. Alex Hornibrook was 9-of-17 for 113 yards, a touchdown and a pick for the Badgers, but the star of the show was Taylor, who propelled himself into the Heisman conversation with a dominant performance. Taylor will try to come close to that on Saturday when he and the Badgers return home to host Purdue.

9. Miami Hurricanes

Last Week: —

National Championship Odds: +2500

The Hurricanes (4-0, 2-0 ACC) held off a late rally from Florida State in a 24-20 win on the road as Malik Rosier was 19-of-44 for 254 yards, three scores and a pick. Braxton Berrios had eight catches for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Hurricanes, who forced a couple of turnovers, but they also allowed 17 points in the fourth quarter and better teams will punish them for that. The Hurricanes will be at home on Saturday to host Georgia Tech.

10. Oklahoma State Cowboys

Last Week: —

National Championship Odds: +2500

The Cowboys (4-1, 1-1 Big-12) are the big winners of the week as they get into the power rankings, largely by virtue of Oklahoma’s loss to Iowa State. Their last game was a 41-34 win at Texas Tech and they’ll be at home to face Baylor on Saturday, but the Big 12 has been thrown up in the air by Oklahoma’s loss and the Cowboys could be best equipped to take advantage of it, along with TCU, who are undefeated in the Big 12 along with Texas (who plays Oklahoma this weekend).
