GERMAN BUNDESLIGA – Two Match Preview (Round 10)

Bundesliga

Final two matchups in German Bundesliga on Saturday will take place at Bay Arena in Leverkusen and Allianz Arena in Munich. Bayer is coming off from a 5:1 road demolition of Monchengladbach and they are undefeated in last four games while Koln team doesn’t have a win after nine rounds so far and they are coming off from a goalless home draw against the second worst team of the Bundesliga, Werder Bremen.

The second matchup presents the game of the week in Germany as Bayern Munich who strung together two consecutive wins hosts RB Leipzig who on the other side has four victories in a row. Interesting matchups and quality soccer is without a doubt in front of us so let’s take a closer look and exploit these teams’ attributes in order to raise our funds a bit.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN

The Leverkusen team finally got into the rhythm as they are undefeated in last four weeks of play in Bundesliga. During this span, they’ve recorded two wins over HSV and Monchengladbach and two draws against Wolfsburg and Schalke 04. Confirmation of good form came on Tuesday night when Leverkusen defeated Union Berlin in DFB Pokal competition (4:1) and advanced to the next stage.

The Factory XI (nickname for Bayer Leverkusen team) currently ranks at No. 9 spot in the league table with 12 points in nine games and a 3-3-3 record (2-2-0 at home). Their goal difference is 20-14 (11-4 at home) and 89% of their matches had over 2.5 goals in total while 75% of their home games had over 3.5 goals in total. They’ve managed to score at least one goal in every single home game so far and both teams scored in 78% of their duels.

Leading scorer is Kevin Volland with five goals while Julian Brandt has three in his account. Wendell and Kai Havertz are the teams’ leading assisters with three each while passing segment belongs to defender Sven Bender with 464 total passes. Goalie Bernd Leno has 98 shots against, 19 saves and two games with clean sheets so far.

Sven Bender (thigh) and Kevin Volland (ankle) are listed as day to day and it’s unclear if they’ll be available for Saturday.

FC KOLN

The FC Koln team still holds the unwanted title of being the worst team in the league so far but there are some indicators that this might change after Wednesday night’s 3:1 road win over Hertha Berlin in DFB Pokal. Hopefully, more pleasant winds are blowing for head coach Peter Stoger who somehow manages to stay at the helm of the team despite horrible results this year.

The team currently ranks at the bottom of the Bundesliga caravan with only two points earned in nine games, six less than the nearest squad that ranks above the relegation line. They are 0-1-4 on the road and their goal difference is 3-17 (1-11 when visiting). 56% of their matches had over 2.5 goals in total while 20% of their road games had over 3.5 goals in total. They’ve managed to concede at least one goal in both halves in 60% of their visiting duels while both teams scored in 33% of their total matchups.

Authors of three only goals scored for the Billy Goats so far are Dominique Heintz, Yuya Osako, and Frederik Sorensen while Jhon Cordoba, Tim Handwerker and Simon Zoller collected one assist each. Heintz also dominates the passing segment with 372 total passes while goalie Timo Horn has 146 shots against, 30 saves and two clean-sheet games at the moment.

Nikolas Hartey (meniscus) and Jhon Cordoba (thigh) are expected to be back next month while Jonas Hector’s (ankle) timetable for return is set to mid-December. Matthias Lehmann (muscle) is listed as day to day while Konstantin Rasuch’s (Flu), Claudio Pizarro’s (thigh), Marcel Risse’s (meniscus) and Marius Laux’s (unknown) status is unknown.

Bayer Leverkusen vs. FC Koln – Match Prediction

This is a potential landmine matchup because FC Koln’s players seem to be awakening lately. Still, there is a pretty big chance of this being a high-scoring game and both teams score look like a no-brainer. When it comes to the final result a draw makes the most sense but I won’t advise a final result pick.

My pick: Both teams score YES (-135)

Additional pick: Over 2.5 goals (+123)

Bayern Munich vs. RB Leipzig

Three-Way: 1: Bayern Munich -200; X: +530 Draw; 2: RB Leipzig +850

Spread -1.5: Bayern Munich -108; RB Leipzig +106

Total +3.5: Over -105; Under -101

 BAYERN MUNICH

The defending Bundesliga champions are catching up with the league leader Borussia Dortmund and now they have the same amount of points earned (20) but with a slightly worse goal difference that places them at the No. 2 spot in the league table at the moment. In the Bundesliga, they are undefeated in last six rounds but two of those duels were draws and when we add to the inferior performance against Paris St. Germain in UEFA Champions League competition, it’s obvious that Bayern is not performing on the expected level. This period of faulty results was enough for the team’s board to part ways with coach Carlo Ancelotti and bring Jupp Heynckes back from the retirement.

The Reds are 6-2-1 (3-1-0 at home) this season and their goal difference is 22-7 (14-3 at home). 67% of their matches had over 2.5 goals in total while every single home game had over 3.5 goals in total so far. They’ve managed to score in both halves in 56% of their duels and in 33% of Bayern’s matchups, both teams scored.

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski tops the team in scoring with nine goals so far while Arjen Robben and Corentin Tolisso have two each. Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich are the teams’ top assisters with four and three while defender Matts Hummels holds the passing game under control with 559 total passes. Goalkeepers Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich have 83 shots against, 22 saves and five games with clean sheet combined.

Manuel Neuer’s (broken foot) season is over as he is set to be back in April next year while Thomas Muller (thigh) and Franck Ribery (knee) should be available during the next month. James Rodriguez’s (back) status is unknown while Juan Bernat (ankle) should be back in few days.

RB Leipzig

The Red Bull Leipzig team is white hot right now with four consecutive wins stringed together. Period of adaptation to a busy schedule that includes playing in the domestic competitions and in the UEFA Champions League is obviously over and the Bulls are finally presenting themselves as the legitimate contenders for the title.

The team currently ranks at No. 3 spot in the Bundesliga table with 19 points in nine games and a 6-1-2 record (3-0-2 on the road). They score 1.78 and concede 1.11 goals per matchup (16-10 goal difference) and 56% of their games had over 2.5 goals in total while 20% of their visiting duels had over 4.5 goals in total. Both teams scored in 56% of their overall games and they’ve managed to score at least one goal in 40% of their road matchups.

Timo Werner tops the team in scoring with five goals while Jean-Kevin Augustin has three in his account. Midfielder Marcel Sabitzer collected team-high three assists while Diego Demme and Dayot Upmecano recorded the biggest number of total passes so far with 432 and 380. Goalies Yvon Mvogo and Peter Gulacsi have 99 shots against, 25 saves and two games with clean sheet combined at the moment.

Bruma (muscle) and Fabio Coltorti (muscle) are listed as day to day while Stefan Ilsanker’s (toe) status is unknown.

Bayern Munich vs. RB Leipzig –Match Prediction.

These two locked horns on Wednesday in Leipzig in the DFB Pokal competition (German Cup) and at the end Bayern Munich held the upper hand as they managed to qualify for the next stage by being better in penalty kick competition as the scoreboard showed 1:1 after the final whistle. The Bulls’ best scorer so far Timo Werner missed the fifth round’ penalty kick and ended the DFB Pokal appearance for his team in the current season. Having this in mind a little payback might be in order but a much safer pick here is over 3.5 goals in total and that’s where I would put my money on.

My pick: Over 3.5 goals (-105)
