ARSENAL
The Gunners dismantled Everton at Goodison Park in the previous Premier League match, recording the first victory away from home in the league. The Toffees got to an early lead through Wayne Rooney, but Nacho Monreal, Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette, Aaron Ramsey, and Alexis Sanchez all scored, while Oumar Niasse only softened the defeat. Arsenal came away with a huge 5:2 win and also beat Norwich City in the 1/8 finals of the Carabao Cup thanks to a brace from the youngster Edward Nketiah who helped the Gunners to come from behind and secure a 2:1 overtime victory at Emirates.
Arsenal has played 15 games so far in the 2017/18, recording 11 wins, a draw, and three losses, with a goal difference of 30:17, which is 3.1 goals per contest on average. The Gunners have been excellent at home, winning all seven matches and conceding just five goals, but Swansea scored in the previous four visits to Emirates, so they will be hoping to do it once again on Saturday.
Alexandre Lacazette is the team’s top scorer with five goals to his name, and he finally managed to bag one away from home, so that curse of not scoring in the away matches is now broken. Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud, and Danny Welbeck are behind the Frenchman with three goals apiece. The Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka is the best assist-maker with four dishes at the moment, while Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey added three assists each. Santi Cazorla is still sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury, while Shkodran Mustafi (muscle), Calum Chambers (hip), and Danny Welbeck (muscle) are also out and unavailable for this clash.
SWANSEA CITY
The Swans are in a poor run of four defeats in the previous five Premier League matches, and after a home 1:2 loss to Leicester City in the Premier League, they suffered another at Liberty Stadium; this time to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup. Jesse Lingard sank the hosts with a pair of goals, but the cup elimination will make Swansea to turn to the Premier League and concentrate on their relegation fight. They are in the 15th position with eight points, eight behind the Gunners, and a potential loss could send them to the danger zone.
Swansea played 12 games so far in this campaign, recording four victories, two draws, and six defeats, with a goal difference of 12:13, which is a bit over two goals per contest on average. The Swans have been very good in the away matches as they recorded three wins and suffered only one loss – to West Ham. They won twice in the last five trips to Emirates and scored in each of the previous four, so Swansea shouldn’t be written off when the teams meet on Saturday.
Tammy Abraham, who is loaned from Chelsea, is the team’s leading scorer with five goals in 12 appearances, while Jordan Ayew with three, and Leroy Fer and Alfie Mawson with a couple of goals apiece are following him on the goal-scoring chart. The Ghanaian international Ayew is the most creative individual with three assists to his name, while Tom Carroll added two thus far. Paul Clement is happy to have almost all of his players healthy and available for this tilt, only the centre-back Kyle Bartley is sidelined with a knee ligament injury and will not feature on this one.
Arsenal vs. Swansea City – Match Prediction
Seven of the previous eight H2H duels produced at least three goals, so I am backing goals at Emirates as Arsenal will likely score two or three, and Swansea could also find the net at least once.
MY PICK: Over 3.5 goals (+124)
Crystal Palace vs. West Ham United
Three-Way: 1: Crystal Palace +145; X: +239 Draw; 2: West Ham +238
Spread 0: Crystal Palace -139; West Ham +139
Total +2.5: Over +117; Under -119
CRYSTAL PALACE
The Eagles are still at the rock bottom of the Premier League table as they suffered consecutive defeats against Newcastle United and Bristol City. Following a massive and unexpected 2:1 win over the reigning champions Chelsea, Crystal Palace fell short at St. James’ Park and was blown away in the Carabao Cup as Bristol beat them, 4:1. Bakary Sako gave Palace an early lead, but the hosts scored four without reply, and although Palace tried, they were unlucky in front of the goal.
Crystal Palace played 12 games in this season so far, recording three victories and nine defeats, with a goal difference of 6:24, which is 2.5 goals per contest on average. All of the Eagles’ three wins came at Selhurst Park, but they lost the previous three duels with the Hammers at home, so they are surely eager to end that negative streak.
The midfielder James McArthur and Bakary Sako are the team’s top scorers with a couple of goals to their respective names, while Wilfried Zaha added one. The inefficiency remains Roy Hodgson’s biggest problem, but their luck could change here as West Ham’s defense is far from convincing lately. The gaffer cannot count on the strikers Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham, who are out and will not be able to help their teammates.
WEST HAM
The Hammers were in the lots of trouble prior to their Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham at Wembley, and after the recent 0:3 home loss to Brighton in the Premier League, Slaven Bilic was under pressure. However, the second half heroics from his players secured a 3:2 victory over Spurs, despite the hosts leading by two at halftime, and that victory could be a turnaround for West Ham. Andre Ayew’s brace and Angelo Ogbonna’s header completed the comeback at Wembley and was evident that the players gave their all to save Bilic’s job. Still, the Hammers are struggling in the Premier League as they are currently in the 16th position with just eight points from nine matches.
West Ham played 12 games in the 2017/18, recording five victories, two draws, and five losses, with a goal difference of 16:18, which is 2.83 goals per contest on average. When it comes to away matches, the Hammers are without a defeat in the previous three outings, and they also beat Palace in the last three visits to Selhurst Park.
Andre Ayew is the team’s leading scorer with four goals in 11 appearances, while Chicharito and Diafra Sakho are right behind him with three goals apiece. Marko Arnautovic, Manuel Lanzini, and Arthur Masuaku are currently the best assist-makers with a pair of dishes to their respective names. Slaven Bilic can count on most of his players as only Sakho and the centre-back James Collins are doubtful for this clash due to lower back and ankle injuries, respectively.
Crystal Palace vs. West Ham United – Match Prediction
Both teams need to get points out of this encounter, and I expect to see attacking football with goals on each end, but I am giving a slight advantage to the visitors, who will be playing on the wings of the significant victory at Wembley. I expect both teams to score at least one goal.
MY PICK: Both teams to score YES (-110)
