NFL Fantasy: Biggest Fantasy Busts From Week 8

Jordan Reed

A weekend full of rainy weather brought with it a fair share of fantasy disappointments. From teams being shut out to players putting up donuts on the stat sheet, Week 8 gave us some of the worst fantasy games of the season. Here the biggest busts from Week 8 of the NFL season.

Quarterback– Dak Prescott

143 Passing Yards, 16 Rushing Yards, 0 TDs,

Prescott was a bust in fantasy, but in all actuality, he played fine and did enough to help the Cowboys climb above .500. However, this an article about fantasy busts and Dak Prescott and his 7.32 fantasy points did not cut it in fantasy football. This game was Prescott’s worst fantasy game of the season and excluding Week 17 of last year (when he played only 25% of the snaps) this was Prescott’s second-worst fantasy game of his career.

Running Back– Mike Gillislee

34  Rushing Yards, 0 Receptions, 0 Receiving Yards, 0 TDs

It has not been a great year for Mike Gillislee, who started the season off hot with four touchdowns in two games. From Week 3 to Week 8 of the NFL season, Gillislee has been a disappointment. With six teams on bye in Week 8, Gillislee was in more starting line-ups than usual this week, yet he only finished the day with 3.4 fantasy points. What makes matters worse for Gillislee is his absence in the passing games. Gillislee has zero receptions in eight games this season. If he continues only to be a late-game, close out back, he may be worth dropping.

Wide Receiver– Terrelle Pryor

0 Receptions, 0 Receiving Yards, 0 TDs

The 2017 season has not been kind to Terrelle Pryor owners, but Week 8 was the absolute low-point. Pryor was held without a single catch on Sunday and was not even targeted for a pass. He has yet to develop any report with Cousins and may not be able to by the end of the season. Pryor is on pace for 510 receiving yards and two touchdowns this season. Since he was expected to top 1000 yards receiving and catch at least a half dozen touchdowns, Pryor is not just a bust in Week 8, but one of the biggest busts in fantasy football this season. At this point, he’s a player that you have to cut. Let him go as that’s what the Redskins will be doing after the NFL season is over.

Tight End– Jordan Reed

1 Reception, 5 Receiving Yards, 0 TDs

Another Redskin makes the list for failing to live up to expectations in Week 8. Jordan Reed was coming off his best game of the season and finally looking (somewhat) healthy. He followed up his performance in Week 7 with the worst fantasy game of this season, catching a single pass for five yards. On top of that, he injured his hamstring and now looks to be questionable – at best – for next week’s game. Reed gets two tough games in the next two weeks, and if he continues to average just 7.8 yards per reception, he may not worth starting. Keep an eye on the news wire this week to see if Reed will be able to suit up for Sunday’s affair.

Defense – Miami Dolphins

28 Points Allowed, 295 Yards Allowed, 1 Blocked Kick

Although, most football fans would not look at the Miami Dolphins defense and think “world-beaters”, the fact they could only muster a single fantasy point against the Baltimore Ravens (with Ryan Mallet playing for half the game) is nothing short of disappointing. The Dolphins defensive struggles are partly attributed to the fact their offense is fringing on historically bad. They are averaging just 202.3 yards per game. Even the 1985 Chicago Bears would be hard pressed to cover up that bad of an offense.

Kicker– Cody Parkey

0 FGs, 0 Pats, 1 Missed +50 Yard FG

Nothing went right for the Dolphins this week, including for their kicker Cody Parkey. Parkey missed his only field goal attempt of the night and finished Week 8 with zero fantasy points. Week 8 was the third time this season that Parkey failed to score a fantasy point. Run away from Parkey and don’t look back. The Dolphins have the worst offense in the NFL right now. Until they can figure out a way to move the ball consistently, this is a kicker you’ll want to avoid.
