NHL Picks: The Ottawa Senators visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday in a game that can be seen on NHL Network. Both teams are off to good starts this season so this should be an entertaining contest on Sunday. The Senators had won four straight before their game earlier this week against Toronto was postponed while the Blackhawks started the season with four wins in their first five games. There are a total of five games on the Sunday NHL slate. Let’s look at all of the action and NHL predictions.
Ottawa Senators at Chicago Blackhawks (NHL Network)
The Senators started strongly this season with wins in four of their first five games. They ran off four straight wins after opening with a close loss to Nashville. The defense has played better than expected and the team has scored just enough goals to win. Keep in mind though that the Senators level of competition has been pretty weak. They beat Tampa in overtime, Florida by a single goal, got a two goal win over a disappointing Colorado team and a 3-2 win over Colorado. The Senators have not had much success in this series as they have dropped 7 of the last 10 but they did win at home 5-3 against Chicago last year. Winning in Chicago has been another story as they haven’t won in Chicago since 2001. They have dropped their past five road games in Chicago.
Pick: We’ll look for this game between Ottawa and Chicago to go under the total.
- Colorado Avalanche at Winnipeg Jets – The Avalanche have really struggled early in the season due to injuries and due to a weakened overall roster. Perhaps they get Varlamov back for this one and he can steal games on his own. The last six meetings in this series have gone over the total so we’ll ride with the trends and take the over in this game.
- Columbus Blue Jackets at Los Angeles Kings – The Kings will be a high priced home favorite and it makes sense considering they are the defending Stanley Cup champs and they have taken the last four in this series in L.A. We’ll take the home team and the under in this one.
- San Jose Sharks at Anaheim Ducks – The Ducks have won seven of the last 10 at home in this series with the last four going over. We’ll go with the home team in this one.
- Washington Capitals at Vancouver Canucks – The Canucks have won seven of the last 10 at home in this series with three of the last four going under. We’ll back the home team in this game.
