CFL Picks: It is a battle for first in the East as the Toronto Argonauts visit the Montreal Alouettes on Sunday. The Alouettes are just .500 at 8-8 but that record is good enough to hold a one-game lead over the Alouettes and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. There could easily be a three-way tie for first after this game is over because the Tiger-Cats are favored at Ottawa on Friday. Let’s take a look at all four games in Week 19 and CFL predictions.
–Friday, October 31–
Hamilton at Ottawa (Tiger-Cats -6.5, total 44)
This is a must-win game for the Tiger-Cats as they have to win their final two games to make the playoffs. The Tiger-Cats won 16-6 earlier this month against Ottawa. They could sure use a similar result this time around to make next week’s game at Montreal mean something. There is no real reason that Ottawa should win this one as they are simply looking at players for next season. If Moses Madu has a big game then the Tiger-Cats should roll. We’ll look for Hamilton to win and cover.
–Saturday, November 1–
Winnipeg at Calgary (Stampeders -10, total 49)
There is nothing for the Bombers to play for as this is their last game of the season and they are out of the playoffs. It is also a meaningless game for Calgary as they have already clinched the best record in the league. It is definitely a strange situation as neither team has anything to play for. Calgary may decide to rest some starters this week and then give them action next week since they will have a bye before the playoffs. We’ll go under the total.
British Columbia at Edmonton (Eskimos -5.5, total 48)
This might end up as a playoff preview in the West. The Eskimos are rolling right now and there is no reason to think they will lose this one at home. We’ll lay the points in this game and also play the over.
–Sunday, November 2–
Toronto at Montreal (Alouettes -2.5, total 50.5)
Two weeks ago it was Montreal winning 20-12. This time around the game is in Montreal and the Alouettes are slight favorites. The better quarterback in this game is Ricky Ray but Montreal is at home. The Argonauts are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings in Montreal. The Argonauts are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games but they are just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 vs. the East. The Alouettes are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and they are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 vs. the East. The Under is 5-1 in the Argonauts last 6 vs. the East. The Under is 4-0 in the Alouettes last 4 games in November. The Under is 19-7 in the Alouettes last 26 vs. the East. The Under is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings in this series.
CFL Predictions
We’ll take the points with the Argos and also play the game under the total.
