American Idol is narrowing down more contestants this week on its night where they are singing songs from Prince and from the year they were born.
Another night of live American Idol voting and two contestants will leave by the end of the night. All contestants will sing two songs tonight — one from the year they were born and once from the Prince catalog.
Kicking it off is Jurneee with “Kiss” and she looks amazing. I’m okay with this rendition and she has a little Janet Jackson going on right now. This is probably the most comfortable I’ve seen her on the stage, which is a huge difference from when she started the show. I think she did great and had a ton of fun.
Wow Sheila E is on the show! Katy: “You look like a snack!” Luke: Great song choice.
Next up is Gabby Barrett singing “I Hope You Dance.” Gabby has a huge career ahead of her — she’s beautiful and can sing her ass off. She has definitely become a front-runner on this show and I didn’t think she’d stand out at the beginning of the auditions. The only thing that drives me a little crazy is that she is a little nasal on some notes. Nice job though.
We are definitely calling @GabbyBarrett_ after that stellar performance! #AmericanIdol pic.twitter.com/PeFQWZ2HFk

Singing “I Would Die For You,” is Michael J. Woodward. I don’t like the beginning of the song, but he sounds better in the chorus. I’m definitely not a fan of this song and his rendition even though Katy and the judges are on their feet.
Cade Foehner is singing “Who Will Save Your Soul,” a Jewel song and of course he rocks it out. Katy calls it interesting but doesn’t want him to go full throttle all the time. Wait, Katy Perry’s mom is in the audience and sitting back that far??? Weird. Wasn’t his best song though.
Catie Turner — who is too adorable for words around Nick Jonas. She’s singing “Oops, I Did it Again,” by Britney Spears. When she hits that stage it’s amazing. Her eyes are open and she’s a freakin’ superstar. She’s having fun. Not the best song choice, but she’s doing great with it.
One of my Idol favorites Caleb Lee Hutchinson is singing Amazed by Lonestar. (Caleb I’ll buy any album you put out, I promise.) This kid looks happy and is an amazing singer. I am happy to hear him singing a little higher, outside of his normal deep register. Love it.
Aaaand we’re just amazed by that performance from @calebleemusic @AmericanIdol pic.twitter.com/W3DaZ8nNO2

Singing “Nothing Compares to You,” is Maddie Poppe, and I love her voice. She is putting on a show. I love this rendition and she’s killing it. Here’s what former Idol winner Taylor Hicks had to say about her performance:
Winner. Done deal.

Michael J. Woodward will sing “My Heart Will Go On,” from Titanic. He’s goofy but he’s a good singer. I’m not sure he’s the best singer in the competition, but he did a nice job with this song. I like him on ballads more than faster songs.
Cade Foehner singing “Jungle Fever,” and if you ask me it’s the same over and over. Good though and he has his fan base.
Gabby sings “How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore,” by Prince. Great performance. Gabby can really win this, but she’ll have to get through Maddie. I honestly think it’s Gabby’s night. Both performances were fantastic. Lionel: “I loved that.” Katy: “The competition is yours for the taking.” Luke: “That was a ‘mic drop’ moment.”
Jurnee is up next and she’s singing “Back at One.” She’s so good and I hope that the American Idol audience really connects with her. Nick said he’s not allowed to pick favorites — wink, wink — but that he seems something in Jurnee to possibly win this. I think her voice has matured so much during the competition. Great performance. Katy, what is going on with you that you don’t see Jurnee’s potential? I don’t get it.
Up next is Catie Turner singing “Manic Monday.” Another bouncy tune and she forgets the words at one point. I don’t know if it was a glitch in her earpiece or not, but she recovers! Nice Catie. Luke encourages her and reminds her that she hasn’t glitched once, so it’s okay.
Maddie Poppe is talking to Nick about how she doesn’t want to be put in a box. Singing “If It Makes You Happy,” by Sheryl Crow, this girl is a superstar. Do I really need to tell you what the judges said?
Rounding out the show before we get to the eliminations is Caleb Lee Hutchinson, singing “When Doves Cry,” and I like his slowed down version of this song. Makes it a bit more country and I like it. You can’t take the country out of this kid’s voice. He got a little pitchy but I liked this performance. I also liked that he didn’t smile throughout this performance. A little more emotion to it was great.
This is what it sounds like when @calebleemusic SINGS! 🎶 #AmericanIdol pic.twitter.com/7rasHJdGUB

Okay now it’s elimination time:
The top 5 will jet off to Nashville to work with Carrie Underwood, who is the next superstar guest and mentor. In no particular order to make it to the Top 5:
Caleb Lee Hutchinson
Maddie Poppe
Cade Foehner
Gabby Barrett
The last person to make it belongs to: Michael J. Woodward
.@Jurnee and @hashtagcatie are 2 special humans. The ride is just beginning. Good luck on the next chapter girls. #AmericanIdol pic.twitter.com/7sXwbwpXV5
