Cincinnati Reds at San Diego Padres Matchup 06/03/18

The Cincinnati Reds will take on the San Diego Padres at PETCO Park. Fox Sports San Diego will televise this NL showdown. The opening pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. ET.

Cincinnati Reds vs. San Diego Padres Odds

San Diego (-115) is favored over Cincinnati (+105) and oddsmakers have set the Over/Under for this afternoon’s game at 7.5 runs (-105 for the over and -115 for the under). Runline odds sit at -200 for betting the Reds +1.5 runs and +170 for the Padres -1.5 runs.

The Padres are 26-34 SU and 29-30 ATS. They’ve lost 2.4 units for moneyline bettors and 8.4 units against the spread (ATS). Luis Castillo is getting the nod for the visiting Reds. The right-handed Castillo is 4-5 with a 5.49 ERA and 61 strikeouts. He has yet to face the Padres this year and only made one start against them in 2017 (0-0, 4.50 ERA and four strikeouts across six innings).

The Padres are sending righty Tyson Ross (4-3, 3.29 ERA) to the mound. Ross has 68 strikeouts and 24 walks to his name, as well as a WHIP of 1.17. Ross did not record a start against the Reds in 2017.

As a unit, San Diego’s pitching staff has yielded 4.6 runs per game overall in 2018. The club’s starters have a 4.91 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 8.2 strikeouts per nine innings. The bullpen has a 3.22 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 9.2 K/9.

San Diego’s offense is putting up 3.9 runs per outing, including 4.4 per game over its last 10 games and 6.0 per game over its last five. The team has slashed .274/.350/.384 over its last five games and is 4-1 SU during that span.

Outfielder Jose Pirela and first baseman Eric Hosmer have led the Padres’ offense this year. Pirela is slashing .276/.331/.360 with 63 hits, 18 RBIs and 34 runs scored, and Hosmer’s line is .280/.369/.453 with six homers, 25 RBIs and 29 runs.

Second baseman Scooter Gennett and first baseman Joey Votto continue to lead Cincinnati’s hitters. Gennett is slashing .340/.376/.558 with 11 home runs, 39 RBIs and 30 runs scored, while Votto (.291/.410/.422) is up to six homers, 24 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

On the other hand, the Padres have lost 2.9 units and are 21-19 ATS when facing a righty starter. The over’s hit in 16 of those games, compared to 22 that went under the total.
