ADCC 2017 Odds

ADCC 2017 Odds – Under 77KG Tournament – The ADCC 2017 Submission Fighting World Championships are scheduled for Helsinki, Finland this coming weekend. As usual, the single elimination 16-man tournaments are stacked, with the under 77KG class looking stacked.

You can consider this weight class wide open as the ADCC 2015 champion Davi Ramos is not currently in this year’s field. Ramos made his UFC debut this past March, taking a unanimous decision loss to veteran fighter Sergio Moraes. The ADCC 2013 winner was Kron Gracie and at the ADCC 2011 event, the division was won for the last time by the legendary Marcelo Garcia. The second and third place finishers from 2015 are back in this year’s field as Brazilians Lucas Lepri and Gilbert Burns are looking to win the title with Ramos out of the way.

American Gary Tonon checks in with +300 odds to win the 16-man bracket which makes him one of this year’s top 3 seeds along with Lepri and Burns. Tonon bowed out to Lepri in the second round of the 2015 event and he is looking to avenge that loss. American JT Torres rounds out the top 4 seeds. Torres earned a third-place finish in the ADCC 2013 competition and he will be looking to improve on that this weekend.

Traditionally at the ADCC competitions, the under 77KG weight class has been one of the most competitive, but historically it has been dominated by two men. In the early days, Renzo Gracie had his best days at ADCC in this weight class and after Gracie came the phenomenal Marcelo Garcia.

Few will remember that Garcia actually came in second in the Brazilian Trials held in 2003 and was a last minute invite to that year’s world championship tournament. He would advance past the first round by defeating Japan’s Kiuma Kunioku which left him in a second-round bout with Renzo Gracie.

The 2003 event was Renzo Gracie’s fifth ADCC. He was returning to the under 77KG weight class after bowing out in the first round of the 2001 competition at under 88KG. Gracie was there to win, but Garcia dispatched him and went on to win the entire tournament. Garcia remains the only 4-time tournament champion in ADCC history and his run began with the symbolic “passing of the torch” victory from Gracie.

With no former winners or all-time greats in this year’s field, you can look for a cutthroat competition that sees evenly matched competitors in the top seeds.

BETDSI is currently giving odds on 13 fighters in the 16-man field. Don’t forget to check BETDSI under “Fighting>Odds To Win” for any adjustments to the lines for ADCC 2017.
