One of Major League Baseball’s top home run hitters, Khris Davis, is staying in Oakland for at least two more seasons, after he signed a two-year extension with the team Thursday. Speaking of top young players, the Dodgers have one in Julio Urias, who struck out nine and flirted with a no-hitter on Thursday — and still likely will be moved to the bullpen. And the White Sox have a couple of exciting young infielders to build with.
Since the beginning of the 2016 season, when he came to Oakland, Khris Davis has 143 home runs, the best mark in baseball by 14 over Giancarlo Stanton. And he’s going to keep hitting dingers in the East Bay.

Usually, when a young player strikes out nine and allows only a couple of hits, it means he’s an ascending ace. That might well be the case for the Dodgers’ Julio Urias … but first he’s headed to the bullpen. Such is the depth in Los Angeles.
Julio Urias would be the second or third best starter on at least a third if not half of the teams in baseball, and he’s going to be out of a rotation spot by this time next week. The Dodgers are stupid deep, man.

As players get older, they get more expensive under baseball’s current salary structure. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t good deals to be had. Patrick Corbin appears to be a bargain thus far for the Washington Nationals.

The White Sox don’t look likely to compete for a playoff spot this season, but young infielders Yoan Moncada and Tim Anderson are showing that success might not be far away.

Finally, in some disturbing off-field news, the Yankees uncovered racist recordings in the past of Kate Smith, who has sung God Bless America at Yankee Stadium for several seasons. Not anymore.
