The Astros’ best player thus far this season hasn’t been Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman or Carlos Correa. It’s actually been outfielder George Springer, who spent the first six weeks of the season performing like an MVP. So it’s a big blow for Houston that Springer — who had just returned from back stiffness — strained his hamstring Friday night in Boston and will miss some significant time. Elsewhere, the Nationals gave a vote of confidence to manager Dave Martinez even as the team has struggled. The Mets signed a couple of familiar names in Matt Kemp and Ervin Santana. And a couple of National League West teams had big nights, led by Rockies shortstop Trevor Story and his 100th career home run.
Springer was doing his best to make a play and said his hamstring “locked up” on him. Oof.
Here’s the latest on George Springer, who may have suffered a significant hamstring injury. At best, a trip to the injured list is likely.https://t.co/XpT6HjE76b

There have been some early calls for Dave Martinez’s job in Washington as the Nationals struggle, but he appears to have some time to turn it around.

A few years ago, a trade for Matt Kemp and Ervin Santana would have been a big splash for any team. The Mets got them on minor-league deals and hope for some production from either.
After signing huge pieces in Ervin Santana and Matt Kemp, the Mets jump to first in Bleacher Report’s odds to win the 2013 World Series. This team is going places. #LGM

Trevor Story plays in Coors Field and has some serious pop. That combination has made him the fastest shortstop in history to reach 100 (and then 101) home runs.
🚨🚨WALK OFF ALERT🚨🚨
Trevor Story launches his 2nd homer of the game to win it for the #Rockies.
He hit career homer #100 and #101 today, the fastest shortstop ever to reach those marks. pic.twitter.com/CwiwV9OFxk

Another example of a clubhouse meeting that had an effect, at least temporarily. The Diamondbacks took out some frustrations in San Francisco to snap a five-game losing streak.
Fun fact: Until tonight the #Dbacks had never scored 18 runs in a road game. pic.twitter.com/vTEx8olY3U
